Description
Alan Bradley has finally perfected the technology to digitize people, which allows humans to enter the internal world of a computer. His program, "Ma3a," has AI sophisticated enough to store the entire gene code of a person and the mathematical equations necessary to transfer people back and forth between the physical and digital world.

However, fCon - Future Control Industries - has learned of Alan's research and is moving to take over the company. When Alan disappears mysteriously, finding him is up to Jet, his son. Jet uses his father's technology to enter the computer world and, while investigating his father's disappearance, discovers a sinister plot.

Four "primitive" weapons - disk, rod, ball, and mesh - are encountered in the computer world, though the disk is the only weapon that can be used both offensively and defensively. Jet will also ride light-cycles, both the classic cycle from the 1982 film and a new "experimental" update from designer Syd Mead (also responsible for the original light-cycle design).

Excellent game

just played this agin, having played it many years ago thanks to great game design, good playability and some really unique features it still feels great to play the fact that it's set inside a computer system means they can get away with stylised electronic graphics - the face animations still hold up and once you get the hang of how the whole thing works it's great fun. each level has a fairly unique design and as you progress the scenery gets more and more impressive i got to the end wishing there was more which was saying something - very much recommended

Great game, great value & experience.

The TL;DR line: if you even remotely like sci-fi, the Tron movies or a good, lightearted FPS, get this game. I can't be more pleased with TRON 2.0. But let's first review the cons: - The game is somewhat short. - The levels are repetitive. You always have to unlock the gizmo XYZ to help program A achieve result B. But it's fun even with that. - The light cycle sections don't go with all people. I loved them but YMMV. - Sometimes after loading a saved game, the game becomes unresponsive and one has to sign out in order to regain control of your computer. - Installation of unofficial patch v1.042 is a must, and you must do it since GOG cannot carry it due to reasons. Now, having said that, this is a fantastic game. As some other reviewer said, this is a love letter to the original TRON movie. It really feels immersive; you feel like you are playing the movie again. The graphics have aged very well and the game looks great. Since the game is old, it's light on resources and can be player by almost every computer. The voice acting is stellar, and you have names such as Bruce Boxleitner, Cindy Morgan and Rebecca Romjin-Stamos. Gameplay is light FPS, with some RPG elements: you improve yourself with new versions and subroutines, and you could choose to improve your abilities as you see fit within certain parameters. This is somewhat similar to Deus Ex but resembles more No One Lives Forever (from the same folks). There are levels which have to be played with light cycles. There are new designs contributed by the very own Sid Mead (yay!), and I found the levels enjoyable, and a nice break from the FPS mechanics. These sections are well done and it really feels like you're playing a light cycle game from the movie. I understand these sections can be skipped for those less inclined to play them. But if you do, there is even a menu section where you can instaplay a quick race. All in all, great game and great value. Go get it!

An all time favorite

Frankly captures the world of Tron better than any of the movies.

Like living a movie sequel but better

With both Bruce Boxleitner and Cindy Morgan reprising their original movie roles (something Tron: Legacy couldn't even pull off), this game feels less like a platformer and more like living through a movie sequel. None of the puzzles are really difficult, their forte isn't in being killer, but in being natural fits into the level and story. No one who has ever watched Tron should pass this up. I've heard rumours that this movie was born out of a failed Tron movie sequel, and that the game's success is what spurred Tron: Legacy to finally get made. This game is far superior in story, setting, and in capturing and expanding on the "retro futuresque" feel of the original movie than the actual sequel was. In that sense, it would have been better if they made this story into the sequel. That said, I personally prefer it as a game where I can immerse myself and live it rather than just watch.

Still one of the best

The 2nd best "thinking" FPS ever (behind System shock 2). The visuals are awesome and still work well. Action is good and the upgrade system, interesting guns (especially the disc), and even the story with some funny twists still keep things way more interesting than most modern shooters. Having the general power/memory of the device you are in reflect in the upgrade system is very nice touch. Still worth it.
