A huge step up from Trine 3, but...

Trine 3 was in my mind quite terrible, the 3D didn't work at all so it's good that Frozenbyte returned to the 2.5D from the first 2 games. It does however little to improve the first two games and in some cases it's a lot more limiting in puzzle design and how you solve your puzzles. Some might say it's more streamlined but the puzzles are fairly easy and you have less options than in the previous games and the combat outside of bosses are also pretty pointless and add very little since it lack all challenge. The bosses where quite neat even if the final boss was a letdown. That said, if you liked the first 2 games then it's more of that. The art style is a still beautifull, the music still great and overall it's more of the same. If you played the first 2 and want more of that pick this up, at least at a discount, if you havn't played the first two, start with them (especially the second one). If you played them and dind't like them why are you still reading this, it's obviously the series are not for you :) One final really anoying thing, that's not a major issue but still frustrating is that the experience chart for each checkpoint doesnt really work all the time, so it might look like you have collected all but 5 experience points in a level and in the level selection screen it say that the missing experience are in checkpoint 5, but they are in fact in checkpoint 4. Makes sweaping up the final missed experience points a chore since it makes them harder to find for the entirely wrong reason.

This is the long awaited sequel of Trine

So far I played only the tutorial and first level of second chapter. Good old mechanics from first and second part, bit polished with some neat ideas. A bit too easy, compared to the first two parts, but you still need to think sometimes a bit to find the solution for some riddles. Music is good, story has a lot of jokes, I like it! And now for the view......it is not a super realistic art style, but the look of various scenes is astonishing, great work. I know, I gave only 4 stars, but for the bit too easy level design I had to take one of. In overall: I don't regret, that I bought the 4th part.

Really enjoyable

Yeah, maybe the puzzles weren't very difficult most of the time, but they were quite fun. And there were new mechanics to explore. I say keep the Trines coming. Also, I'm the Zoya player of our group and I really enjoyed the change she had in this one. She's no longer the loner who goes up in the clouds by herself. Now she has mechanics that help the others get to places, like she herself notes at the end. That change of feel was a really nice way to show some character development through game mechanics. And of course we get all the nice visuals and audio that are hallmarks of the series.

Great game

I haven't played Trine 1 or 2, but I've had a lot of fun playing Trine 3 co-op. Pros: - The artwork is beautiful. - The puzzles have multiple solution - Cooperation leads to hilarious moments Cons: - Puzzles are too easy

Trine returns to form

It's a definite step up from its predecessor, but feels much more limited and streamlined than the first two iterations of the series. And, for all its vaunted return to 2.5D, it does feel like a visual step down, with graphical elements like water effects (the ones you control in puzzles, at least) suffering from a noticeable downgrade. That being said, Trine 4 is a most entertaining game, gorgeous to look at, a delight to listen to and always fun to play. The story won't win it any awards, but it bears the series' hallmark fairy tale-like charm and keeps things moving at a brisk pace from checkpoint to checkpoint, all towards a satisfying ending that leaves you waiting but not desperately wanting for a fifth chapter.
