Simply Overstays It's Welcome

The Good: * A good... Forget it... An amazing... Never mind that... Oh I know... Gorgeous...No, no, no... What the word I am looking for?... I know! JAW-DROPPING graphic. Rich, Colorful and packed with so many eye candy that I think that the only game that looks better on the market is "Trine 3". * Very solid action-puzzle-platformer - Nothing needs to be added here. The game knows what it is and provides a good experience in that category. * An enchanting music - The music never comes to be an amazing one in this game but it fits the game very well. The Bad: * Simplified gameplay from the first one - Removing items and mana bar. Checkpoints now heal you for full health. Because of this the gameplay never really challenge you since you are never punished and you never need to consider anything beside how get to the other side or solve the puzzle. From start to finish it has no build up. * It's too long - Not in a sense that it is some grand game but in a scene that it has almost nothing new stored for you in it's 10 hours or so hours of length. No new mechanics, challenged or such. Nada... There is a point of how much times you can solve the same puzzle or platforming section in the same way until it becomes repetitive and tedious. * Story - In the first game they went and did a fairy tale like story, that went nicely with the game. This time they went with the generic story that pretty much adds nothing and you will not care for anything. * No point in searching for secrets - Unlike the previous game that gave you items for exploring hidden areas... This time you will get a poem or a picture... Gee, thanks but no thanks. * Fights - Fighting is the game weakest side. Unlike how in the previous game they knew it and provided a minimum amount of it, here you fight non stop and it's far from a refined system. Just choose warrior and click-click-click that left mouse button. The Ugly: * Realizing that this game is quite shallow... Sad face :(

gorgeous, gets tiring

Such a beautiful game, lovely handpainted landscapes, each very detailed. The voice acting is superb and the narrator fun and clever. The story is engaging as well, tho a bit predictable and cliche. My rating is really 3.5, held up by the stellar graphics and acting, however, several glitches causing me to restart whole levels (bosses getting hung up in landscape so you cant kill them to progress, walkways getting detached and stuck in gears preventing progress, etc) Gameplay gets old as it repeats the same scenario every time, progress to new area, find orbs, find way out, get cut scene. Would have liked more exploration or break up between levels. Some levels were near unpassable if you had not leveled up a certain skill, though devs allowed you to respec. I didnt want to respec each time a level was difficult, seemed to be cheating. Towards the end I was just tired of the game, at the end battle boss ended up watching a Utube just to get the story completion.

Appeals to the puzzle fanatics and kids

While Trine 2 usually has multiple ways of approaching puzzles, the overall plot is rather linear meaning it doesn't really encourage replays. The plot is also a cringe-worthy children's fairy tale but if you can get past these flaws, you'll find a beautiful and fun puzzle co-op game that is suitable for casual gamers, puzzle fanatics or your kids.

good but sure not the best

Take blue pots that give you xp is the main objective. its done doing lots of puzzle and you spend xp to get abilities making easier do puzzles. puzzles are not too hard and you can avoid then leaving some xp behind. fight and battles are easy. i enjoyed trine 1 more than trine 2. you can find better game, but trine 2 can be your game if you enjoy puzzles 2d games

A great sequel

As with the first installation, it's the graphics, scenery and music that sustains the sense of magic and wonder throughout the game. If you know a game that's prettier to look at, which one would it be? Maybe Trine 3? I killed a character a few times just getting screenshots. Many of the weaknesses of the first one have been rectified. There are more and different kinds of bosses. The skeletons have been replaced by opponents with more personality. The game is longer (a few times you think it ends, only to continue), and the knight now has a meaningful, sometimes crucial role in the action. Meanwhile, the gameplay is just as precise and intuitive. Many games incite cursing and rage because of their flaws, bad controls, stupid, random idiocies etc. With Trine, you pretty much only blame yourself when you die. One thing missing from the first one is a worthwhile reward/hidden item system - I'd rather collect something more consequential than poems and paintings. Getting to them is still fun thank god. And you will miss many of the orbs if you don't really look for them, nor are they easy to reach. The challenges are only repetitive if you only use one method; Trine 2 allows even more freedom in how to solve the puzzles in myriad of ways. You're the one with the tools, be creative. It's very pleasing to reach some item, having built and climbed a towering, leaning pile of debris that is just a pixel or two away from collapsing due to its own inherent instability, maybe inside a gravity bubble - on purpose! How much can you stretch it? I generally stay away from platform jumpers but the mesmerizing imagery made me buy the first one, and then immediately the second. It really does look that good, plays that good. You even sort of start caring for the characters. To not recommend it would be to undermine why computer games exist.
