You are born falling from orbit, a new mind in a body once occupied by the Changing God, a being who has cheated death for millennia. If you survive, your journey through the Ninth World will only get stranger… and deadlier.
With a host of strange companions – whose motives and goals may help or harm you – you must escape an ancient, unstoppable creature called the Sorrow and answer the question that defines your existence: What does one life matter?
Torment: Tides of Numenera is the thematic successor to Planescape: Torment, one of the most critically acclaimed and beloved role-playing games of all time. Torment: Tides of Numenera is a single-player, isometric, narrative-driven role-playing game set in Monte Cook’s Numenera universe, and brought to you by the creative team behind Planescape: Torment and the award-winning Wasteland 2.
A Deep, Thematically Satisfying Story. The philosophical underpinnings of Torment drive the game, both mechanically and narratively. Your words, choices, and actions are your primary weapons.
A World Unlike Any Other. Journey across the Ninth World, a fantastic, original setting, with awe-inspiring visuals, offbeat and unpredictable items to use in and out of battle, and stunning feats of magic. Powered by technology used in the award-winning Pillars of Eternity by Obsidian Entertainment, the Numenera setting by Monte Cook provides endless wonders and impossibly imaginative locations for you to explore.
A Rich, Personal Narrative. Thoughtful and character-driven, the story is epic in feel but deeply personal in substance, with nontraditional characters and companions whose motivations and desires shape their actions throughout the game.
Reactivity, Replayability, and the Tides. Your choices matter, and morality in the Ninth World is not a simple matter of “right” and “wrong”. You will decide the fates of those around you, and characters will react to your decisions and reputation. The result is a deeply replayable experience that arises naturally from your actions throughout the game.
A New Take on Combat. With the Crisis system, combat is more than just bashing your enemies. Plan your way through hand-crafted set-pieces which combine battles with environmental puzzles, social interaction, stealth, and more.

This game definitely threads in the footsteps of Torment. Some of the most creative, most intriguing and bizarre dialogue as well as gorgeous looks make me want to give this game 5 stars despite some misgivings. I love how Numenera plays on the computer and even though it probably could have been done much better with an option for real time with pause combat like in all the D&D games from the past, it still is my favourite by far out of all new Unity engine RPGs. The amount of bizarre items you can encounter and collect in this game is staggering. There's also these things called Merecasters that have visions and past memories stored within that your character can revisit. Very immersive and thought provoking.
The text dump of quests is neither engaging nor compelling and I struggled to find a reason to keep going beyond the opening hour.
There's a lot of concepts and stats floating around and these feel like a distraction where I want to be able to put attention towards to the story. I'd like to mention something about the characters but they are not really worth talking about.
Shame because I'm sure there are some great ideas in the background but they never seem to matter from the moment to moment as I wade through another wall of text.
Game is the first (in area of many years) isometric RPG (cRPG). I must confess I had expected more from production like this. The story do not take player into that world. The moments of boredom connected tightly with "do-the-same-things" decreased the overall rating.
I look for DLC (free one) to make up for this failed story.
Second star because I am fan-boy of Baldur's Gate 2 ;)
This game has been such a disappointment.... There are such limited options for character development - this is NOT an RPG. The fighting system is sooooo slow and clunky. It is so limited too. The characters graphics look terrible, but the surroundings look pretty good. This game falls so far short of my expectations for an RPG. It doesn't hold a candle to the first game. The companions are shallow and uninteresting. There is a lot of details added into just about everything, which is nice for those who care enough to read it all. After awhile I stopped caring about all the fluff because it just wasn't very interesting. I only managed to play about 10hrs before I gave up and starting playing Tormented to wash away the horrible taste of this game from my mouth...
The creators of this game just shovel loads of story text at you that are made up of mostly vague and meandering references that treat concepts and ideas as if they were solid objects or places or people or whatever, and so it grows increasingly pretentious, boring and ultimately nonsensical. Pain this, pain that. Death this, death that, blah blah blah. Nice artwork. Managed to get through it with a minimum of combat, so I suppose in this regard it can be compared to Planescape: Torment. But overall a rather uninspired effort. Still, I was able to finish it, due to its very short length, more than I can say about its failed cousin, Pillars of Eternity, which was even more of a chore to play. Nice try, but no.
