Description
The award-winning action RPG is back, bigger and better than ever! Torchlight II takes you back into the quirky, fast-paced world of bloodthirsty monsters, bountiful treasures, and sinister secrets - and, once again, the fate of the world is in your hands!
Torchlight II captures all the flavor and excitement of the original game - while expanding the world and adding the features players wanted most, including online and LAN co-op multiplayer. Torchlight II is fast, fun, and filled to the brim with action and loot. Adventure solo or online with your friends!
  • Multi-player – Featuring drop-in drop-out co-op play. A free matchmaking peer-to-peer service lets you make new friends and create friend lists. At any time, choose online multi-player, LAN play, or single-player. You can take your same character online/offline and across PC/Mac/Linux play.
  • Customizable Characters – Players will create and customize a character from one of four classes available and choose an animal companion. Through cosmetic, class, and gender choices, skill path decisions, and the treasures they acquire, each character will be custom-tailored to each player’s tastes.
  • Individual Loot Drops – Loot ninja’ing is a thing of the past! Every player sees their own loot drops onscreen. Loot drops are not class specific since all classes can equip all in-game items, provided the required stats are met. Items can also be traded between players.
  • Pets – Look for all new pets in Torchlight 2, the wolf, panther, domestic cat, hawk, chakawary, bulldog, and the papillon. Players will choose a pet to accompany them. Pets can level up along with the player, and will help in battle, learn spells, carry items, and perform a variety of support services. They can also be sent back to town to sell unwanted items, and even return with potions and scrolls!
  • Randomized Overworld and Dungeons – Explore randomly generated dungeons within the game at any time for extra experience and rare loot. The Overworld areas of vast snowy morasses, desert wastes, and highland plains are also randomly generated. Players will encounter weather, day and night cycles, random quest givers, and random events, creating hours of non-storyline specific adventuring.

Shallow and boring

It is a rather boring arpg game, it lacks the depth and customization of free to play games such as Path of exile. Basically I measure every arpg against Path of exile and every other arpg is really shallow compared to it. I played both torchlight 1 and 2 and both of them were very easy to put down once new challenge league starts in Path of exile. Uninstalled both torchlight games and never looked back.

Flawed artistic direction

The game is technically well executed, but there is a mismatch between its artistic style on the one hand and the story and setting on the other hand. The story and setting include such scenarios as the player character carefully venturing forward in dark tunnels, trying to avoid getting killed, and slaying, among other monstrosities, human-sized giant spiders that spit deadly venom. This is the stuff of nightmares, and there is nothing in the story that would somehow put a lighthearted spin on it. However, the game has a cartoonish visual style that is clean, neat, almost cute. Instead of reinforcing the sense of dread and danger that is part of the story, the presentation counteracts it by creating a very different atmosphere that feels much safer and less disturbing. Cartoonish and cute can, of course, work very well in (other) games, but only if the story, the setting, the characters and the artwork have all been developed with the same vision in mind, and produce a consistent and cohesive experience. I really wanted to like this game, and I would have been willing to overlook some problems related to gameplay, but, sadly, the dissonance between the story and the atmosphere is jarring. In the end, it was not fun.

The Age of TL2 is over

I'm a player who enjoyed Diablo 2, Path of Exile and even Diablo 3 in it's early days, but Torchlight 2 is really boring to me. The community has apperently long moved past this game. Yes there are still some online games but most lobbies have name's like "faggot" and so on. I never even bothered to join in. Looking for guides or active discussion or information in general is rather hard. Class discussion forums have latest posts dating back to 2014, sites with skill calculations are long offline and replaced by online casino spam. Which leaves me to solo play the game and i don't find much joy in that. Normal difficulty is to easy, veteran still feels boring and from what i've read about playing elite, i've learnt that you're supposed to farm for 1 specific gem to socket into your gear for damage reduction. Otherwise you'd constantly die. So there is one way to play that mode, great flexibility indeed. I'd like to get a refund for this :(

Fails on Linux Ubuntu20+ Debian 10+

I have tried everything. I bought it only to figure out it stopped working as soon as I had to upgrade. :/
