Description
Dr. Eva Rosalene and Dr. Neil Watts have rather odd jobs: they give dying people another chance to live. Literally. Using a technology that allows artificial memories to be implanted, the doctors can weave and transform the mind of a patient to help them live the life they wanted to live...

To The Moon follows Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts' attempt to fulfill the wishes of a dying elderly man, Johnny. In their attempt to do so, they travel deep through the man's memories, unfolding his curious life story before their eyes. With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny's past is revealed. As the two doctors piece together the fragmented events that spanned a lifetime, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish.

Johnny's last wish is, of course, to go to the moon.

So Much Wasted Time

I bought this because I heard of so many people saying that it "hit them in the feels". Unfortunately, it only hit me in the nethers. This felt like someone had an interesting seed for a short story (which is why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1), but thought somehow they had to wrap it in something game-like to make anyone care about it. You click to move your characters, but there's no way to do it wrong. There's no reason you need to do it at all. It's as if you were playing a visual novel, and it required you to click several times through blank boxes before you got the next bit of text. Eventually you have to click around to get items to move on to the next part, but that part requires no thought either. There are puzzles you have between sections. Do these puzzles help you understand the characters? The plot? The world? Not that I can tell. I can only guess they exist to have something game-ish to do. The dialogue is often cliche', the jokes are not what you see in most anime and sitcoms. When dialogue is trying to move the plot along, often the characters don't talk like normal people, presumably to keep things mysterious, but it's so awkward. The music is fine. The discovery of what is going on between the characters is at least a step above typical plots, but I never got close to bursting into tears or what have you, and I have cried at movies like Big Fish, so I'd like to think I'm not a heartless bastard. So all your enjoyment is likely to hinge on whether or not the surprise means anything to you. I bought it on sale, and I still regret the few hours I spent on it.

Stunning

this is short but one of the best thought up stories I've seen, honestly I hope they make another it had feeling i haven't seen since Chrono Trigger, FF7, or Xenogears. The art is right out of RPG's of that era too, very well made up sprites looking foward to another.

Masterfully Crafted

To The Moon will evoke your emotions with its wonderful storytelling and equally wonderful music. Just let me remind you of its adventure game gameplay. Don't expect action segments. Let yourself be immersed. I'd recommend completing this relatively short game in one day for maximum impact. I wouldn't want you to forget anything. I spent the full $9.99, but when I consider how I've spent more money on movies that can't even compete with To The Moon... I win.

Videogames can tell good stories

Just finished this lovely gem! One of the best story ever told by a videogame. Ok there's no awesome graphics, there's a limited way to interact, few easy puzzles, a bit of exploring, but the story is so well written and the characters are so "human" that you will rush to the end. At the end, you can even...cry. If you enjoy videogames you have to play To The Moon because this is the proof that videogames can tell good stories with mature contents, excellent plot and deep characters. An absolute masterpiece. Note for older gamer (like me): If you ever played Secret of Mana or Illusion of Time (Gaia) on SNES, you'll love the 16 bit graphics, too.
