Thronebreaker is a single player role-playing game set in the world of The Witcher that combines narrative-driven exploration with unique puzzles and card battle mechanics.
Crafted by the developers responsible for some of the most iconic moments in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the game spins a truly regal tale of Meve, a war-veteran and queen of two Northern Realms — Lyria and Rivia. Facing an imminent Nilfgaardian invasion, Meve is forced to once again enter the warpath and set out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge.

+ Nice visuals and music
+ The new version of Gwent is fun
+ Good story that is sometimes reflected in the the rules of particular gwent battles
- Resource management does not work very well : too much clicking on crates and not enough customization options in the camp
- Maybe a tad expensive
The RPG elements (definitely the strongest side of CDPR) and most puzzles make me not regret the money, but card battles and related resource management on the hardest difficulty are a joke, you win most battles 2-0 with 300 points over your opponent. Resource management is boring in general, they could have came up with something better than gold/wood/recruits that you mostly pick. Overall my rating is more like 3.5, but I ceiled it to 4.
As many have probably mentioned, like W3, this game absolutely excels in story, music and atmosphere. If you like any of those things about CDPR games, then no doubt you'll enjoy this game. So i'll note just some minor negatives.
The puzzles got stale towards the later half, they just weren't fun anymore, even though none of them were repeats.
Has some minor bugs where cards dont perform as intended.
Only found one typo, where the a letter was capitalized incorrectly.
One thing that bothered me was that whenever a major plot point was reached, cutscenes would play and sometimes throw too much information at you, without any pausing, or start a new dialog without any pause after finishing the previous sentence. Just kind of breaks the immersion / flow of the game a bit, and makes it hard to keep up.
~~Minor Spoiler~~
Battles became fairly repetitive, and easy towards the later half, which is fine, but just there
wasnt much tension like in the earlier stages, which is somewhat appropriate, but it just couldve been balanced a little better.
The ending could have had more questions answered regarding your companions.
Some of the cards are buggy (or unintentionally op) enough to end some of the most difficult battles in one or two turns
Overally, this is a very good game and definetly worth its price. However, the mechanics after ca. 20h get kinda boring - I was getting tired of doing almost the same thing over and over. However the storytelling is absolutely thrilling and makes up for mechanical issues. Game could also offer a bigger challenge (after ca. 10 h player is completly OP even on hardest difficulty). Looking forward to next CDPR games.
First of all I want to say I don't own this game but I'm going to bitch and whine about it anyway.
I have supported Gwent from the very beginning but I don't like it any more because the developers didn't develop the game exactly how I wanted it to be developed, they should have listened to everything I said on the forums because even though I have no qualifications in game design I know far more than they could ever dream of knowing.
And now they release ThroneBreaker which is a graphic novel card game, basically Gwent, next CDPR will be saying is the Witcher series of games is based on the writings of some novelist. ThroneBreaker is a rip off because although I have free will not to buy the game or any game for that matter they actually expect me to buy this game, to spend my money on it, CDPR are just trying to force me to buy the game because it has 20 new Gwent cards and buying it is the only way I can get them even though I don't play Gwent any more.
To top off this disappointing release they make the game challenging, what! How dare they make a game that has consequences if I get things wrong I want to be able to get out of it easily not be told I am fallible, CDPR what were you thinking!
I don't understand is why the game does not support ultra wide monitors that 99% of the gaming community do not own, CDPR should have bent over backwards to support a minority of users because we have lots of money to spend on very expensive setups and clearly are more important than the majority of gamers.
And my final gripe, how dare CDPR have an exclusive release on GOG a part of their own company, private companies that have their own platform for games should not be allowed to do such things, they should release their games on the platforms that I want and not be so selfish.
I have lost all faith in CDPR and GOG for not doing exactly what I want at all times, I think my gripes are fully justified, don't agree with me then you are just blind to the truth.
