Thronebreaker is a single player role-playing game set in the world of The Witcher that combines narrative-driven exploration with unique puzzles and card battle mechanics.
Crafted by the developers responsible for some of the most iconic moments in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the game spins a truly regal tale of Meve, a war-veteran and queen of two Northern Realms — Lyria and Rivia. Facing an imminent Nilfgaardian invasion, Meve is forced to once again enter the warpath and set out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge.

Love Thronebreaker for what it is. The Witcher feeling captured on point. Great RPG with a unique approach, excelling story and exciting riddles. Though -1 star because Thronebreaker is clearly a reason for what Gwent Homecoming turned out to be.
I have played through the first map which took just under 6 hours.
Yet again, CDPR shows their commitment to being consumer friendly by making this not only a straight up single player experience, no bullshit or strings attached, but you also get a bunch of free goodies inc. the soundtrack, a map download, artwork etc!
Pros:
1. Simple rules that can develop into interesting strategies, one of which I enjoy is one where you can benefit from hurting your own troops.
2. These rules are broken from time to time (you are told how beforehand) leading to more interesting scenarios that you could not get into elsewise.
3. Serene soundtrack which is fitting in a card game rpg of this kind.
4. Failure of battles is not a massive setback, allowing you to try different stategies on a whim.
5. You are forced to switch up your tactics/deck from time to time, when you may lose or gain cards due to story events or one off 'custom deck' battles which showcase other potential strategies.
6. You can see some of your choices have an effect on the world, some of which you discover later down the line (similar to the dark spirit in the tree in Witcher 3)
Cons:
1. I personally am not a fan of the art style. The art style is very accurately portrayed in the trailers.
2. The world feels a little bit linear because you are being forced down one winding path (a few dead end branches) whereas I would prefer if there were multiple ways to approach the main objective
3. all choices are of two options that may or may not be what you want to do (for example I chose to rescue an elf accused of spying, but really wanted to give an explicit order to keep an eye on them but couldn't) and sometimes these choices seem meaningless (~70% of the time however they do seem to have an impact)
4. Not a fan of the army cap (understandable as to why it was added but feel it should be a little more reasonable)
Overall I really enjoy the game, and is well worth the money.
More like the Japanese RPG than strategy games like HoMM3 or Kings Bounty. For me, this game: Final Fantasy Tactics + Suikoden. You go around the map and collect heroes who stay with you or leave depending on your decisions in the game. Each player will come to an end with a different team and their own history.
I have to say this. I am one jaded gamer. I have been playing games for almost 20 years now and not much can impress me.
But this game. It is just a masterpiece. The reason i used to play video games.
The gameplay is solid, the gwent rules forcing you to think due to the nature of the two row system. The cards are interesting, fresh. All cards are cool in their own weird little way, and you have to play them to fully understand, even than only begining to undestand the combinations. Oh my the combinations. Once you see what a couple of cards played in the right order can do you start thinking thee turns ahead out of reflex.
Even more amazing is how the game teaches you all this.
Alongside the normal battles (which themselves are unique) you have puzzles. These battles are meant to teach you different combinations of cards and the true potential of the game.
Oh, all that good gameplay is also incapsulated in great world building, exploration that matters and a great story that stand on its own.
This game reminds of Heroes 3. A perfect storm of art, music, gameplay and this time story (Heroes' 3 sucked but that didn't matter).
Thronebreaker should be played by everyone, It is a must buy, instant hall of fame, best game of all time material.
Also, as a negative its far too easy for a jaded experienced gamer like me.
