Become the real thief. Steal in free roam sandbox neighborhoods. Observe your target and gather information that will help you with the burglary. Take the challenge and rob the best secured houses. Buy some hi-tech burglar equipment and learn new thief tricks. Sell stolen goods to the passers. Do anything that a real thief does!
A good thief always observes his target. What's inside? Who lives there? What's your target day schedule? Find out when the house is empty and does it have nosy neighbours. Choose from lots of possible approaches to prepare the best plan. Many modern devices available in Thief Simulator might come in handy with gathering intel about your target and it's neighbourhood.
The faster, the better. Find and steal as many valuables as possible in the shortest time possible. Remember that infinite backpacks don't exist. When it's about time you have to maintain cold blood. In every house you'll find tons of useless stuff, which can really slow you down. If you're not sure that you can take some serious money for it, maybe a good idea would be to leave it behind and save space for some expensive goods. If you fill your backpack with worthless items, you may have to waste your time to throw stuff out just to make space for other things. Be careful, cause some things can draw police attention to you!
A real, experienced thief can spot places where there's most probability of finding some valuables on the fly. Use the flashlight at night to highlight all the valuables in sight and places where you can expect them to be.
Disassemble a stolen car and sell parts on the internet. Prepare phones and tablets before selling them in a pawn shop by removing their security.
Look around for any useful items. They will save you some time on lockpicking or hacking. Key near a window or purchase receipts in trash bins. All those things can make life of an aspiring thief so much easier and reduce your burglary time even by a half. Of course many of them are just useless trash... Or maybe they aren't?
Be careful! In some houses you can meet unexpected guests. If they catch you in the act, they will call the police. In this case hide and wait till they stop looking for you or you can always leave the loot and run away as fast as possible.

Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
The game has been v1.45 on GOG for more than two years now at the time of this writing.
Meanwhile Steam is up to v1.6 and getting a massive content update in patch v1.7 soon.
The "Luxury Houses DLC" is completely absent from GOG, with absolutely no indication that it will ever by published here.
This game should be removed from the the store, because customers on GOG are blatantly getting scammed with missing fixes, content & DLC.
I beat this game twice and I could describe it as "guilty pleasure". Literally. Stealing is bad but... why is my hand once again in this cookie jar?
What this game provides?
-Freedom. You're not limited by the plot, you can go out there and do what you like. You're your own boss.
-Graphics. They're just fine. Day\night cycle, reflections, resolution, small detail, nature... It's exactly what it should be.
-Skill tree. Growth with experience.
-Rules. Clear and simple conditions of success.
-Challenge. You'll break a sweat quite a few times and replay your jobs after being caught.
-Tutorial. You're taken into the game by the hand. It's not intrusive, it's a simple guidance that organically leads the character through the game.
What are the annoying parts of the game?
-Roughness. It often feels raw, like a beta. Many "corners" uncut. The simplification of rules makes this world "plastic", on rails. The atmosphere gives a false impression of realism, then you face binary choices and reactions: being seen is instant, people notice a break-in by simply seeing objects you touched, crouching in public is suspicious but staring at a house with binoculars for hours is not...
-Skills tree is too short, end-game lacks motivation, piles of money with nothing to spend on.
-The plot is disappointingly simple. It's only used as a guide through the game.
-The world isn't that big. 3 neighborhoods with scaling difficulty.
-Time flies too fast. Classic 1 real minute = 1 game hour. 60 seconds to do your thing and get out is... pressing.
In general, I must say that everything works together. It is a good game with many good ideas. But you will have a feeling like there could be more. Like it could be better. Everything could be improved and expanded. I really hope there comes a better version: sequel or a game that would be inspired by Thief Simulator. The price is fitting. I don't regret playing it.
Just bought the game, haven't played yet, but the download version is 1.7.1, so it HAS been updated. The reviews saying that's it's the old version 1.45 are out of date.
