Thief™ Gold

... and this game still blows my mind. I got hooked on the thief series when I played a demo of Thief 2, and I'm still a proud owner of a german Thief Gold CD-release. Bought the GOG-version anyway, so now I can get all nostalgic and listen to the awesome german version, or pick the original English one and enjoy Stephen Russell as the vioce of Garrett (and several other characters from the game). Seriously, I have waited so long for this to come on gog.com or even steam and now my prayers have been answered. This series is one of my favorites in history. One of my favorite things about this series is the variety in the different levels: Sometimes you're going throughout a mansion robbing a rich lord, sometimes you are in a massive cavern or tomb trying to find an ancient artifacts, sometimes a mix of both and so much more. Really there are few games like it. This is the way I would put it: This game is basically a mix of Indiana Jones, Batman, and Robin Hood. Now if only they could release System Shock II on here.

Thief is a game that, aside from the sequel, is so utterly unique and influential in the history of game design that not having played it makes you a bad person. Well, a bad gamer anyway. This still fits into my Top 10 (with T2: the Metal Age easily in my Top 5) all time. Everything about the game seems so simple and obvious but when you start replaying the missions you find an unbelievable complexity for what is essentially a remastered shooter. Latter-day games like Borderlands owe this game an enormous debt.

the Father of modern stealth games, it's a fantastic title but a little daunting to get the hang of for first time players. My main problem was literally just getting lost within (which I have no problem with) but the structure of some of these levels are so labyrinthian that the map can be rendered useless at times. So beware if you haven't played these games before, had a blast the mechanics of the game, the ambiance, plot all service the game greatly and for this i highly recommend it

This is a jewel among stealth games I think and the version here works awesome, giving me widescreen, 4k resolution and the cut scenes plays right out of the box. Couldn't ask for more. (Except a remastered version perhaps.) All other versions I've tried have led to lots of tweaking, 3rd party patches etc. Here, all that is unnecessary.
