An Evolution of the Series

The second iteration of the Thief series sees a bigger, brighter and more technologically advancing world and our master thief, Garrett, once more seeking to pilfer the city of all its riches. - The environments are larger and more complex this time around and the variety of foes arrayed against you are much more diverse, lending even more need to using your expanded skill set to strong effect. Using such gadgets as your own mechanical eye, and a new host of tools you'll find yourself in a range of environments and a slowly expanding world with rich lore behind it, and great enemy factions. - The refinements to the graphics engine and general world as a whole help immerse you in the world, and from experience there have been some very tense missions flitting from shadow to shadow to avoid being detected, and with luck on my side a glorious haul to take home afterwards. A very rewarding game, great expansions on the plot, character and world as a whole and the host of improvements with the engine make Metal Age a must have for anyone that wants to enjoy a game that carved out its own niche in the market with the First person stealth genre.

A huge step up

After the horrible Thief Gold, I had my expectations set at rock bottom, with any enjoyment being derived from the game being seen as a luxury, seeing as how more than 2/3 of Thief Gold were devoid of enjoyment. I'm happy to tell you that this game does not at all follow the direction of the later levels in Thief Gold, if anything, it mostly stays as far away from that as possible. At a guess, I'd say about half the missions in the game do not have a loot requirement at all, which instantly removes the frustration of running back and forth through a level for literal hours looking for loot, which was what took up most of my playtime in the first game. This game has a much stronger atmosphere than the first game, and the increased focus on completing objectives, rather than scouring the maps for loot, really adds to that effect. This game has some solid mechanics and enjoyable levels, and is overall a pretty good time. If you absolutely despised Thief Gold, don't be afraid to try this one, as I can tell you that I only got stuck and frustrated twice in this game, and those were mostly my fault.

The better one of the original two

While I really like the original Thief, the second installment of the series is just all around better. The core mechanics stay the same, the equipment has been bolstered by a few new, niffy gadgets but the biggest improvement, are the missions. The first Thief had some 'regular thieving' ones but the majority revolved around traversing supernatural environments and dealing with supernatural threats. The second one delivers on what I, personally, wanted from the first one: breaking into mansions, infiltrating cathedrals, running through rooftops or picketing people at night, while skulking through the city streets. A great stealth game - I highly recommend this classic.

Best of the series!

Really great world building (lore, theme, setting). If you're of a mind there are lots of Fan Made missions and mods for this game. It truly has a life of its own. I wish more games were made like this.

First Person Sneaker

If You loved original Thief go get the sequel. Both games are still best as far as mechanics, lore, story and stealth gameplay. Sequel have more variation to missions, bigger levels (Life of the party level rules) and better story. Enemies variations is a bit lacking comparing to first game also this one have a lot less horror elements. Still both games are 10/10.
