Thief™ II: The Metal Age gives you a chance to revisit the dark streets of the City, now changed by the Order of Mechanists, a new cult which has embraced many of the followers of the fallen religion of the Hammerites. In a world of steam robots and cameras Garrett will have to face a new opponent - Sheriff Gorman Truart, a lawman determined to rid the City of all criminals, starting with master-thief Garrett. Equipped with a new set of tools, including flash mines and scouting orbs, Garrett has to keep himself alive and unveil the secret behind Truart's actions. Starts out looking as a simple case of corruption will eventually become much more, and Garrett again finds himself a reluctant savior--but that doesn’t mean he’s not going to rob the City blind while he saves it!
Are you the sneaky type? Do you have a problem with the concept of personal property (unless it's your's)? Do you feel that shadows are your best friends? Thief™ II: The Metal Age will provide you with hours of stealth and thievery, just the way you like it.

So i can make a new Thief game that will live up to the legacy of this masterpiece of game design. Roger Ebert said games will never be art. He clearly never had the pleasure of playing this beauty.
After the horrible Thief Gold, I had my expectations set at rock bottom, with any enjoyment being derived from the game being seen as a luxury, seeing as how more than 2/3 of Thief Gold were devoid of enjoyment. I'm happy to tell you that this game does not at all follow the direction of the later levels in Thief Gold, if anything, it mostly stays as far away from that as possible.
At a guess, I'd say about half the missions in the game do not have a loot requirement at all, which instantly removes the frustration of running back and forth through a level for literal hours looking for loot, which was what took up most of my playtime in the first game. This game has a much stronger atmosphere than the first game, and the increased focus on completing objectives, rather than scouring the maps for loot, really adds to that effect. This game has some solid mechanics and enjoyable levels, and is overall a pretty good time. If you absolutely despised Thief Gold, don't be afraid to try this one, as I can tell you that I only got stuck and frustrated twice in this game, and those were mostly my fault.
Metal Age is the best stealth game out there period. Its a refined from the teams experience working on The Dark Project. The levels are huge and sprawling, if you get caught every enemy on the map doesnt immediatly know your location like so many other games, the missions are varied and interesting, the villain is wierd and his plans are so beyond our comprehension that you want to find out whats going on. This game sets out to give you the best stealth experience and nails it.
A Perfect Game
While I really like the original Thief, the second installment of the series is just all around better. The core mechanics stay the same, the equipment has been bolstered by a few new, niffy gadgets but the biggest improvement, are the missions. The first Thief had some 'regular thieving' ones but the majority revolved around traversing supernatural environments and dealing with supernatural threats. The second one delivers on what I, personally, wanted from the first one: breaking into mansions, infiltrating cathedrals, running through rooftops or picketing people at night, while skulking through the city streets. A great stealth game - I highly recommend this classic.
This game is a highest achievement in stealth games history - for me only Dishonored series tried the same, but these games are more universal and thus less stealth.
T2 nicely follows the story that was left in Thief:DP outro. There is more technology, great story, less supernatural (again pagan superantural mission is the worst in the game, similarly to T:DP). Genuinely Looking Glass took what's best from T:DP and made it better.
Not everything went well: you can feel the haste with mission before finale being placed there for no reason, but you can also truly feel how huge are the missions, how well designed, and how many different approaches you can try!
Nowadays you should play with HD mod, as it makes the game graphics "bearable".
