I don't understand the love

The Witcher has received so many accolades that I just do not understand. The gameplay is simplistic and repetitive - it's basically a really simple timing game without the complexity of four buttons like rock band. The voice acting was awful, as if delivered by a line of fence posts. Not that I blame the actors, the dialogue itself certainly didn't give them much to work with. And the whole package was juvenile in it's execution. Literally collecting cards of women you sleep with like they're baseball cards. I'm not above a little juvenile fun, but this didn't even seem self-aware. While the 'Enhanced Edition' has at least rectified the buggy nature of the original game (a state that most games don't reserve an 'Enhanced' edition for), it only allows the rest of the games flaws to come to the surface.

RPG goes Adult

This game has it; a dark brutal fantasy-world, with a mature theme. The Witcher forces you to weigh in on choices of moral dilemma, and it delivers without pardon or excuses leaving you to deal with it. The landscapes, surroundings, towns, people and monsters, all of these elements has their place to help you tell your story, and make you feel you are a part of it. The pace is at times flashing forward just to make a brutal halt, as if it lets you ponder and digest. Lots of action, but it also is alot of social dilemmas for you to handle and this is when the pace slows down, as it should. The NPC's is beliveable, as is the monologues/dialogues, hence why they are brought to life, nurturing a depth seldom found in the games of today. So if you look for a fantasy game. If you look for a rpg with great story. A rpg with mature feeling and settings that are dark and grisly under the blank, cold sky - this is it.

Great Game, Extremely Unstable on Mac

The game is good, very good, however I have to give it 1 star because of how extremely unstable it is to play on a mac. Crashes constantly. I've probably crashed over a hundred times now, it's a testiment to how good the game is that I'm still slogging forward even though it's constantly crashing. My advice is don't play it on a mac if you have any other option because it's just embarrassing how often it crashes. CDProject Red should really be ashamed of themselves.

Enthralling Game

How do I put this, basically I have had a big interest in RPGs all my life, loving PC rpgs in the past. However, I have not owned a Windows PC since 2005, making me miss out on a lot of amazing gems. I always had a big interest in playing The Witcher, even when it released back in 2007, but since I only had consoles at my disposal and I do not like to start a series without playing the first game first, I never got around to trying it. Now for the first time in 13 years I picked up a PC (and a powerful one) and I could not wait to start playing all the RPGs I had not experienced yet. With the black friday sale I picked up a bunch of games on GOG and decided to start off with The Witcher: Enhanced Edition. And boy o boy, what a fun did I had for the past 2 weeks. I got absolutely mesmerized by the quality of the story, the atmosphere of the world, the interesting characters, the fun combat and even more fun alchemy. Normally playing a RPG a lot of the side content out of the main story really feels as filler content, which you only complete because you pay for it. But in the Witcher, nothing felt redundant or boring to participate in. And I have not even talked about the choices you make, in this game there is no playing the good or the bad guy. Every choice is meaningful and generally not black or white, but in a grey area. I had multiple moments where I was just pondering for a couple of minutes before making my dialogue choices, about the possible consequences that my decision could ultimately have. Finally, this is one of the few games where I read all the journal entries, with great intrigue. In short the game is absolutely excellent and I recommend it to everybody, pick up this absolute classic if you have not tried it yet. I got a lot of games that I want to play so I think after the roughly 80+ hours I put into the Witcher I am going to leave the Witcher 2 for now but I will definitely be playing it soon.
