Witcher 1. A game worth a try
Despite the age of the game and, let's be real, it doesn aged quite well, it's still a very interesting game with fun mechanics and a combat system that is pretty decent in my opinion. I haven't had performance issues as long as I remember and I had a great time of full fun playing this game. Worth to give a try.

Ode to the Swamps
In a while you forget the game mechanics, forget the names, most of the characters, the plot, but what stays with you for years, or maybe even for life, is the game's atmosphere. It's what makes the game unique. For me The Witcher is the most atmospheric modern game. Places in the game are true masterpieces. And the one that left the most vivid memory is the Swamps. You first come there in a rather weak state, so each new step portends lethal danger. Gosh it was scary! It was hostile, unwelcoming and full of deadly monsters that tested your battle tactics to the fullest. It's amazing how real it felt - the water, the trees, the sunlight, the sense of danger. But as you explore the Swamps you grow stronger. And after a while it starts feeling like home. You now know every nook and cranny, you are the master of the place, the most dangerous thing there. A swamp where not many people dare go - isn't it a perfect place for a lonesome witcher? I very much hope the second part which is coming very soon now will give the same experience.

Fantastic
There's something about this game that truly makes it great, despite some of its flaws. It's a notion I can't really describe. While the combat is a bit mundane, the true greatness of this game comes from its deep, complex story and the immersion surrounding it.

I don't understand the love
The Witcher has received so many accolades that I just do not understand. The gameplay is simplistic and repetitive - it's basically a really simple timing game without the complexity of four buttons like rock band. The voice acting was awful, as if delivered by a line of fence posts. Not that I blame the actors, the dialogue itself certainly didn't give them much to work with. And the whole package was juvenile in it's execution. Literally collecting cards of women you sleep with like they're baseball cards. I'm not above a little juvenile fun, but this didn't even seem self-aware. While the 'Enhanced Edition' has at least rectified the buggy nature of the original game (a state that most games don't reserve an 'Enhanced' edition for), it only allows the rest of the games flaws to come to the surface.
