Good atmosphere. Clunky game.

I have played a few hours and, I have to admit, the atmosphere is quite thick and oppressing. The city is massive. Choke full of locations to explore. Strange characters. Cycle day/night and objects to find. Voice acting is really good and graphic is overly nice and fit the theme. What I struggle to embrace is the overall gameplay. The whole world, while atmospheric, seems way too alien as well. People that look like fishes or apes. Massive coral formations grown everywhere. The whole city is filled with giant sharks and squids left rotting on the ground. Monsters teleports on your back. Your character movement is sloooow. Climbing is clunky. The Mindspace mini game, where you associate cases clues, I still do not understand how works and feels ... Weird. The supernatural view is meh... Perhaps not needed. Collecting evidence and identify specific clues on them, to progress cases, is ok. But a couple of times I think was not obvious how to progress. I.e. what actions take with the item. Some door do not open until you find all clues. Sometimes 2 meters from the door that, magically, now can be opened because you watched some supernatural cutscene. Moving by boat in the city is nice but boring, after a while.

Few steps from perfection

Really interesting take on Lovecraftian mythos. The exploration of the city is absolutely amazing and investigation system is interesting. The only things I would say are wrong with the game is that the stealth system is so not working it is better to ignore it and the creature roster is too small to allow for proper dificulty sloping with time. Also it feels like the game is missing a chapter, not from story point of view bu there are systems and parts of town that are unused. I would recomend for anyone.

good game...but not great

If you like a thinking man's game, this is a good one for you. Way more than just a shooter, you have to aquire clues to make conclusions and solve mysteries...but there is some shooting to keep it fun! It really moves slowly and is easy to get overwhelmed with side quests

Dated Graphics, Absolute Gem.

2007 graphics, animation and gameplay. And bloody beautiful at that. A city sinking into despair and the sea with lovecraftian horror and sly humour. This is a fantastic detective game where you follow one plot line to the next. About 10 hours in i am finding the gameplay getting a tad stale, find a clue with an address, find the address on the map, go to location, shoot some monsters, find another address, rince and repeat, albeit with the occasional stop to the police station or city hall to 'go through the archives'. None of that, either the graphics or gameplay really matter. The characters are engaging, the music is hauntingly superb and the city itself is like very litttle i have ever experienced in a game before. I keep finding little things here or there that just put a smile on my face when i discover them such as a big button I am repeatedly told not to push or sly wit in the many conversations. Unusually i find myself actually bothering to read everything, trying to get more of the fantastic lore and work out what is going on. I feel like my choices in the main quest matter and i am eagerly awating every next turn. In conclusion, look past the dated graphics and repetive gameplay loop and there is an absolute gem of a game here, really well written (so far), lots of humour and a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack. Really looking forward to see what comes next.

Great game

Enjoyed the characters and story a lot. Combat definately needs to be reworked as its just about impossible to aim or hit anything.
