The Outer Worlds Expansion Pass is available here

The Outer Worlds is an award-winning single-player first-person sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division.

Lost in transit while on a colonist ship bound for the furthest edge of the galaxy, you awake decades later only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the Halcyon colony. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.

KEY FEATURES

The player-driven story RPG

In keeping with the Obsidian tradition, how you approach The Outer Worlds is up to you. Your choices affect not only the way the story develops; but your character build, companion stories, and end game scenarios.

You can be flawed, in a good way

New to The Outer Worlds is the idea of flaws. A compelling hero is made by the flaws they carry with them. While playing The Outer Worlds, the game tracks your experience to find what you aren't particularly good at. Keep getting attacked by Raptidons? Taking the Raptiphobia flaw gives you a debuff when confronting the vicious creatures, but rewards you with an additional character perk immediately. This optional approach to the game helps you build the character you want while exploring Halcyon.

Lead your companions

During your journey through the furthest colony, you will meet a host of characters who will want to join your crew. Armed with unique abilities, these companions all have their own missions, motivations, and ideals. It's up to you to help them achieve their goals, or turn them to your own ends.

Explore the corporate colony

Halcyon is a colony at the edge of the galaxy owned and operated by a corporate board. They control everything... except for the alien monsters left behind when the terraforming of the colony’s two planets didn’t exactly go according to plan. Find your ship, build your crew, and explore the settlements, space stations, and other intriguing locations throughout Halcyon.

This game is Midder than Mid

Yeah it took me four years to get around to reviewing the game after playing it, but man I still remember how I felt playing it. I felt nothing, this is a game you play when you don't want to pay attention. There is nothing unique about this game, it is extremely inoffensive, souless, and safe

Good game but needs more

I played this on Gamepass back when it first came out and I enjoyed it a lot. But I also admit where the game falls short. The first half of the game is probably the strongest part of it but after that things gets rushed and less inspired. There's also the fact that the game really doesn't have as much depth as other Obsidian games. Still there's a fun shorter RPG here to be enjoyed. I also haven't played the DLC so that might help make the game feel more complete.

Could've been better balanced

Obsidian really delivers with the world they've created. I'd love to spend more time in it. It is very often funny, sometimes poignant, but unfortunately, it is never difficult. By the time I was half way through me and my companions were unstoppable forces of nature. Yes you could play on the highest difficulty with permadeath for your companions, or leave them on the ship, but then you're missing out on one of the best parts of the game. My advice - don't tinker with your high tier weapons beyond 200 or so monies.

Boring RPG and Terrible Writing

From an RPG perspective it wasn't very engaging, it felt like Fischer Price My First RPG. The choices didn't feel like it had any substance, the gameplay was also very rudimentary. The writing felt so forced and contrived that I did not care about anyone. I made it off the first planet and just gave up because I felt like I saw everything the game had to offer. I wouldn't recommend this even if you're hard up for an RPG, I gave this two stars because the price was right and the game worked out of the box.

Hit and miss and repeat

I am really confused as to where I should put my score. Sometimes the game is great other times it is awful. The writing is the greatest example of this, sometimes you will have deep meaningful writing that could be considered an interesting commentary of corporatism and extremism. But mostly it will be either shallow, boring or schizophrenic. Sometimes characters will be interesting multifaceted characters with understandable motives, occansionally they will be caricatures that add to the story and tells you about the world. Mostly they will be caricatures that rip you out of the experience or less multifaceted and more incoherent psychopaths. The combat is uninspired on lower difficulties but passable. The loot system is more meh than anything, I never found any good reason to not just go highest DPS and armor then plow my way through. Maybe that is better in higher difficulties, I played on normal and never needed to use more than you standard quick health potion/inhaler. The world is beautiful in my opinion a bit over saturated but it gives it a really unique look and feeling, even if that means it might be grating on your eyes occasionally.
