The Outer Worlds

I loved the Game.

From a company that has something like Fallout New Vegas on their list of accolades you'd think things would be better. Combat is a clunky and unbalanced disaster. Enemies have 100% accuracy at any distance and they all rush your position without tactics or self-preservation in mind. Your companion AI is equally bad, ignoring any distancing setting except the longest and getting themselves killed by rushing your target instead of exercising caution and using ranged weapons. The world is _ugly_. The style is reminiscent of Borderlands but with saturation turned way too high and with poor lighting. Texture pop is abysmal on modern hardware, and the draw distance blurs far-away things even when the camera is facing them. Nothing says futuristic than only ever having short hair, right? There's also lense flare, which there should never be unless I'm looking through, you know, a lens. My eyes are not a glass lens, stop doing this awful garbage. There's probably a good and ironic message about the bleak corporate future the world is heading do but it's totally overshadowed by absolutely everything else.

An awesome alternative to Fallout. Same type of game, but way more polished. This game is fun, have a catching story (if you don't mind taking the time to read a little), great gear/weapon mechanics and interesting NPC's. Even the difficulties give room for several types of players. If you liked the "Hardcore" mode of Fallout: New Vegas, then look no further, as this game offers the same type (Easy, Normal, Hard, "Hardcore"). And the graphics are refined, and good looking too! This is a no brainer, if you liked Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas ;)

I know, many compare this with Fallout, but aside from the mechanics being similar it isn't. This is a much smaller game, and deliberately so. They never intended to "beat Fallout" etc.. but it is a nod to it. Understand that this is a small adventure. There aren't gazillions of open ended things to do in this game, but there are side quests. And yes, they are similar.. but again.. this is a smaller game. And for what it is, it is quite enjoyable. I do agree however, that it is a bit of a wasted opportunity. But now that Microsoft owns them, they can do something about it. I would like to see this expand into something bigger. But we'll see what happens after Avowed comes out. That being said, I do think this game is above average (3) and a solid 4. It is fun, and there is replay value to be had. With the extra DLCs there is certainly more fun to be had in the world as well. I played through this on Xbox pass, and got it here the day it came out.
