The Outer Worlds is an award-winning single-player first-person sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division.
Lost in transit while on a colonist ship bound for the furthest edge of the galaxy, you awake decades later only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the Halcyon colony. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.
KEY FEATURES
The player-driven story RPG
In keeping with the Obsidian tradition, how you approach The Outer Worlds is up to you. Your choices affect not only the way the story develops; but your character build, companion stories, and end game scenarios.
You can be flawed, in a good way
New to The Outer Worlds is the idea of flaws. A compelling hero is made by the flaws they carry with them. While playing The Outer Worlds, the game tracks your experience to find what you aren't particularly good at. Keep getting attacked by Raptidons? Taking the Raptiphobia flaw gives you a debuff when confronting the vicious creatures, but rewards you with an additional character perk immediately. This optional approach to the game helps you build the character you want while exploring Halcyon.
Lead your companions
During your journey through the furthest colony, you will meet a host of characters who will want to join your crew. Armed with unique abilities, these companions all have their own missions, motivations, and ideals. It's up to you to help them achieve their goals, or turn them to your own ends.
Explore the corporate colony
Halcyon is a colony at the edge of the galaxy owned and operated by a corporate board. They control everything... except for the alien monsters left behind when the terraforming of the colony’s two planets didn’t exactly go according to plan. Find your ship, build your crew, and explore the settlements, space stations, and other intriguing locations throughout Halcyon.
The first game of this type I've ever played, and I bought it based on a friend's game play. I was fascinated by the possibilities of the story options and choices I could make, and though there was a lot of laughing because of the cleverness of the writers, there was some sad parts too. There were some hard choices to be made, and even after I made them I wasn't sure I had done what I thought was the right thing. I finally completed the game with my third character and after over 100 hours of gameplay. I enjoyed just wandering around the barren landscapes, enjoying the scenery and, uh, the target practice. I will definitely replay it and see what other different outcomes I can get.
This game waas made by a bunch of teenagers that insert shitty jokes into every facet of the game, and forgot to add the roleplaying in their RPG, interesting chracters? What's that? Oh wait no this game was made by the devs of New Vegas, Tyranny, and KOTOR 2, but honestly my description isn't far off. The game feels like it was made by middle schoolers, I'm talking theater kid levels of cringe and stupidity. Go and buy Mars War Logs and The Technomancer, they're clunky but offer a great experience and are usually available for pocket change.
...if you know what to expect. It's a Fallout/TES game in space and it's really well done compared to Bethesda games. Maybe a bit shorter, but I think that's a good thing if you don't play games to pass time but for the ride.
I wish I knew this was coming to GOG a few months ago when I got it from Epic. Not that I care that much... I just discovered Epic games don't actually have DRM unless it's one of the specifically bad infamous ones, I assume.
This game gets boring fast. Super easy and loot everywhere and i mean everywhere. Got to the point of why do side quests at all or even look around that much. Once i started to just rush the main quest, i knew i was done. Not a bad game, just kinda meh.
Starts out pretty good, you can use higher ground to fight enemies by abbusing their abysmal AI. Which already means it is pretty bad but hey at least you can have a little fun, fighting them. Especially since they have a deadly aim, like perfect aiming. You can hide behind things and just knock them out one after each other once they run behin your cover. Lovely stuff.
But very soon this isn't possible anymore. You cannot work strategily, you have to tank everything out. Get super duper higfh armor and just act as a bullet sponge or get eaten by all the super aggresive creatures. It almost tries to be more of an action oriented shooter but it isn't really designed for this. May I compare this to Borderlands? Which is like super non stop action nonsense but it knows it and builts its gameplay elements around that.
But this here is supposed to be a little bit like fallout, and fallout was all about strategy and killing enemies from the distance. Seriously I remember how awesome it was to get some decent headshots in new vegas!. Yes this games combat system is worse than the one of New Vegas. And if someone tells me that this game is about the story and not about the gameplay than I can tell you that you have no clue what videogames mean, if you want story only than read a book! Seriously I read books, they can be so much better at times. Books are all about the story, games are all about gameplay, either the story enhances the gameplay or the story is told trough the gameplay (that is when videogames truly become fine art), gameplay doesn't need to be fun technically, but that goes way to deep here. I would have prefered this story as an adventure game with puzzle solving, oh another thing, new vegas had some puzzles, this here, not at all.
Now what about the story? Forget about it, it is pretty mediocre, fun for a little bit, but would be better told in movie form. I mean I've heard in the US many people are so in debt, companies might own them. But europe? Nope!.
