There are a million worlds in the galaxy. Only one of them is Home.
It was supposed to be a short test run - a quick flight to Alpha Centauri and back. But when mankind’s first experimental jump drive goes wrong, a misfit crew finds itself trapped on the wrong side of the universe - alone, injured, falling apart. The only way back… is through.
Explore an endlessly shifting universe. Form alliances with strange aliens, from the noble Wolphax Knights to cruel-minded Ilitza slaver empire. Harness your crew’s skills in everything from research to archeology to diplomacy. Learn the laws of an often hostile universe, and make tough decisions that may change it forever. Do whatever it takes to get back to Earth.
The Long Journey Home combines the endless freedom of space with a new open questing system that always leaves you in command. Deliver the stranded Glukkt to his homeworld as he asks, or to your new slaver friends? Attempt to make allies with everyone, or pin your hopes on the tougher races, and hope they never turn on you? Jump by jump, make hard decisions and live with the consequences, in a universe that is never the same twice.
One mission. Endless adventures.
Where will your Journey take you?
Endless Space - Explore a living, procedurally generated universe inspired by both classic and modern Science Fiction. Meet different aliens. Find different stories. Take different risks. Learn the secrets of the universe and with them, new possibilities.
Hidden stories - Raid alien tombs full of traps and treasure. Compete in the galaxy’s greatest combat tournament. Find and research strange artifacts, and use your crew’s skills to find out whether that old skull is just a piece of bone, or the Holy Grail of an aggressive new species.

Far from just stats, you’ll come to know them as they share their feelings, their fears, their excitement and their concerns on the trip and your decisions. Learn how best to use their skills to help the others… and who might be willing to sacrifice themselves to get the others back Home.
I was excited to get the game and did one of the tutorials on space flight. I was never able to get away from the first planet much less to the next.
I wanted to play a game not a simulator on space flight. Even Apollo used computers to get between the Earth and the Moon. In this game you got to do it manually.
I quit the game fast.
This is also a nostalgia review, as 'The Long Journey Home' reminded me immediately of the very ancient 'Lunar Lander', I played so often in the arcades almost half a century ago. Lol. The 'Lander' portions of the game reminds me very much of this; is also difficult, like that older game was. Usually I tend toward casual games, but even that old one kept me trying at it; so does this. I had even hoped over the years for some more up to date game like it, and this IS It!
One word for anyone unfamiliar, or even used to similar older games: the 'inertial' controls in space behave similar to those on the planets in the lander; this takes some training and getting used to. As others have said, do not expect to just jump in without knowing this. This style of control came back to me faster than expected but as I was beginning to get a bit frustrated; give the game and yourself a chance, also as have Others have said. The rest of the aspects to do with conserving fuel are difficult but familiar to me; and combat and some other additions I still have yet to face, so wish me luck! Lol. Upgrades and resource management I've not yet tried; this game seems to be a cool hybrid of 'Lunar', 'Starflight', and other earlier games I enjoyed, and I look forward to learning: Five Stars but for the learning curve, but five stars it is! Lol.
Finally, it runs very well graphically and otherwise on my i5_3470, 16gb, on a 4gb nv1050 display, on Win 10, and wants to run at the games 'epic' settings: unusual for most 'newer' games here. THANKS GOG, for Offering this here :-)
Visuals, soundtrack and gameplay are really likeable - many pros and cons have already been mentioned in other reviews. I had fun for many playthroughs/runs.
But beware!
If you are a notorious completionist, consider the following in mind. There are several ingame-achievements you should definitely consider from your first run due to their scope or randomization. Otherwise you will experience a very very tedious and frustrating long journey home. Those achievements are called:
ARE WE NEARLY THERE YET?
TO HELL AND BACK
GALAXY'S MOST WANTED
PORTS OF CALL
15 MINUTES OF FAME
TALLER THAN HE SOUNDED
UP TO SCRATCH
THE STORY SO FAR
HERO SYNDROME
