Description
There are a million worlds in the galaxy. Only one of them is Home.

It was supposed to be a short test run - a quick flight to Alpha Centauri and back. But when mankind’s first experimental jump drive goes wrong, a misfit crew finds itself trapped on the wrong side of the universe - alone, injured, falling apart. The only way back… is through.

Explore an endlessly shifting universe. Form alliances with strange aliens, from the noble Wolphax Knights to cruel-minded Ilitza slaver empire. Harness your crew’s skills in everything from research to archeology to diplomacy. Learn the laws of an often hostile universe, and make tough decisions that may change it forever. Do whatever it takes to get back to Earth.

The Long Journey Home combines the endless freedom of space with a new open questing system that always leaves you in command. Deliver the stranded Glukkt to his homeworld as he asks, or to your new slaver friends? Attempt to make allies with everyone, or pin your hopes on the tougher races, and hope they never turn on you? Jump by jump, make hard decisions and live with the consequences, in a universe that is never the same twice.

One mission. Endless adventures.

Where will your Journey take you?
  • Endless Space - Explore a living, procedurally generated universe inspired by both classic and modern Science Fiction. Meet different aliens. Find different stories. Take different risks. Learn the secrets of the universe and with them, new possibilities.
  • Hidden stories - Raid alien tombs full of traps and treasure. Compete in the galaxy’s greatest combat tournament. Find and research strange artifacts, and use your crew’s skills to find out whether that old skull is just a piece of bone, or the Holy Grail of an aggressive new species.
  • A crew worth leading - Choose four out of ten experts, all with personality as well as specialties. Far from just stats, you’ll come to know them as they share their feelings, their fears, their excitement and their concerns on the trip and your decisions. Learn how best to use their skills to help the others… and who might be willing to sacrifice themselves to get the others back Home.

Unplayable...

You start off with the option to go through the tutorial, which fortunately I did. There you discover that the keyboard is unpractical to control your ship, and hit a bug right off the start; actually, the first orbit around Earth (while looking at the interface) shifted on its own (no thrust applied) and the ship bounced off Earth and moved away at random... Travel mechanics could have been ok, if celestial bodies did not travel so unrealistically fast. There is a display for an ideal path, but this is like playing an arcade game on steroids.. There is no pause, no option to slow down time, no save feature to attempt to travel by trials and errors. I give 1 point because the review cannot be validated with 0....

Very frustrating game

This game is mostly about fighting with the controller to get your ship or lander to go where you want it to go. Also most interaction with the world is just text on the screen. For the current price this game is very disappointing.

Too random and hopeless

At all times you will be hanging by a thread, any of your actions can at any moment and in disaster - with no recovery or second chances. Constant tedious grind to gather fuel with ever-present danger of losing the lander. Repair kits are few and far between. Alliances are convoluted with no why to track who wants what.

Almost but not quite

It doesn't take terribly long to tire of this game, because it simply lacks variety and interest. It almost seems like it will be good. Variety of choices to set out with, big universe to explore, lots of random replayability, multiple alien encounters, etc etc. But what happens with all those great ideas is a mediocre implementation and poor follow through with random failure. It turns into a wash rinse repeat of the same thing over and over: make a jump to a decent system, make a drop to get resources. And that's it. You don't really get to appreciate the few places they actually put graphics, boggle at how such a minimalist game can use 11gb of drive space, tire of bland pointless chats with alien races, puzzle at seemingly random messages from species, fume at the badly implemented physics of piloting, and lament that the special missions and encounter outcomes are so woefully unremarkable you're still bored after 30 min. Definitely not worth the price, even on deep sale. It feels like a 500mb game from 25 years ago that was badly done.
