In a desperate move to end all wars that have been rampaging the world for decades, the mages provoked The Cataclysm. Massive balls of pure magic obliterated nearly everything. A strange purple mist propagated everywhere, with hordes of bloodthirsty mutants coming at night.

Our only hope is now to banish all magic from this accursed world by casting The Last Spell, requiring several days of uninterrupted incantation whilst a few strained Heroes try to protect those damned mages.

The Last Spell is a tactical RPG with roguelite elements in which you have to defend a city against hordes of deadly enemies.

During daytime, prepare your Heroes, carefully choose how to rebuild your Haven and position your defenses. Over the night, exterminate all the monsters coming at your walls with a large range of weapons and skills. Then heal, level up, and repeat until the Magic Seal is broken.

Turn-Based Tactical RPG:

● The whole RPG package: a flurry of stats, skills, perks, traits… and more.
● Tons of items: armors, weapons, trinkets and potions… with their own stats and skills, as well as optional random modifiers. Each weapon has its own skillset and playstyle!
● Build your own classes: upgrade your heroes with stat bonuses and perks, and equip whatever gear you wish. Want to make a glass cannon rogue/mage fighting with a gun? Do it!
● Manage your squad of heroes: they’re strong, but they are few and have access to limited resources. Healing and mana are scarce, so try to find a good balance.

Hordes of Evil:

● Think and adapt: you will face swarms of deadly enemies with only a few hardened heroes. Optimize your positioning and plan your actions: big AOE attacks, crowd control, buffs, poison... Every Action Point counts towards another day of survival.
● Enemies have strengths and weaknesses that will challenge your wits. And because hard is not enough for us, be prepared for the terrifying Elites!
● Each map will end with epic fights against unique mind-bending bosses.

Protect the Haven:

● Rebuild the city to help you in-between fights. Get healed, forge new magical weapons, get new heroes. Spend your resources wisely, commander!
● Build up your defenses: walls, traps, towers, catapults… every tiny bit of help is welcome.
● Protect the Magic Circle at all costs! If you lose it, humanity is doomed.
● 5 Havens to protect, each with their own setup and challenges requiring you to tailor your strategy to beat the Great Evil.

Roguelite Elements:

● The game is meant to be hard. You will fail… A lot. But every time you do, you’ll grow harder, better, faster, stronger!
● Procedurally generated enemy waves, characters, weapons and a ton of unlockables will keep you entertained until the real world collapses.
● Tailor each run thanks to the Omens: a limited amount of bonuses that can be picked for the upcoming run. Do you prefer more Action Points, more characters, sturdier defenses, better loot? Experiment to find your preferred tools of destruction.
● Scale the difficulty to your liking, with 6 levels of Apocalypse to entertain even the most crazy hardcore players.

Headbanger Soundtrack:

● Over 25 tracks of thunderous synths-driven progressive metal to guide you through this joyous slaughterfest
● Composed by the incredible Rémi - The Algorithm - Gallégo

Tactical horde siege madness

The Last Spell is an isometric turn-based tactics SRPG siege battle roguelite against literal armies of the undead, all set to a dunting metal guitar/darkwave soundtrack. The premise is a magical nuclear war has devastated the world and the fallout has resurrected the population as slavering mutant zombies. You command the population of a half-demolished village and a tiny handful of heroes who must build walls and siege weapons, then garrison them with overpowered champions to hold the dead at bay while a circle of mages in the center of town desperately channel a spell that will end the madness by banishing magic from the world once and for all. The heroes are fantastically customizable, getting most of their active abilities from equipment. You can cast a devastating chain lightning spell with your magic book, then swap to a sword/dagger combo to finish off the survivors up close, for example. All heroes start with inherent perks and maulses as well as random skill trees to suggest builds. Town management is all about supporting the heroes, from mana shrines to restore their spell points, to gold mines to fund new buildings, to blacksmiths that provide a free weapon every round. You also have a worker population who can be assigned advanced tasks in your support buildings, or just clear away the numerous enemy corpses for money and unlock points. Then you surround all of it in a circle of walls and static defenses to give backup to your heroes. The one thing that may be a negative for some is most of the variety in gameplay is gated behind an enormous unlock system comparable to Dead Cells' where you use enemy souls and completed achievements to unlock everything from new weapon and building types to universal boosts to hero stats. Fortunately it unlocks during the game and you benefit from the effects instantly. Think Final Fantasy Tactics meets They Are Billions. I love it!

Death by 1000 bad decisions

(Refunded btw) Theoretically this was my perfect game - fantasy, rpg, rogue-lite, strategic, horde-grinder (is that a thing?) But then, past hour 10, I realized that going back to the game felt like a drudge - something that I was really not looking forward to, more like a chore than entertainment. Why though? Because if you take 5 hours for a failed run in a rogue-lite you feel like you've wasted time no matter what you unlock! - You get heroes with random gear and random... disabilities at the beginning. The exact combination has a chance of ruining your run - You do 7-13 horde defense nights before the boss. These are there just to give you money (to build up the town) and xp for your heroes for the final night which is a boss fight - The management of the town and the heroes is very finicky. Each has it's own gear and skills (the skill trees are rng ffs) and you need to build in the town and use the buildings and scavenge remains after each night - Each boss has a gimmick and if you do not realize it or follow some guide it's probably going to kill you on you first (and maybe subsequent) runs. And then it's back to night 1 and another couple of hours of micro-managed grind until you get to try again. - You unlock various items, buildings and orbs (modifiers for your run) as you go along - some of which are useless and will actively make your run worse by appearing as rewards and in shops. Weapons that have only low, single target or mostly defensive abilities are hot trash. DPS IS EVERYTHING IN THIS GAME! - Items are dull and have a pre-set number of stats on them. Legendaries just have more stats than the rest ... yay. TL;DR: the game is a slog that takes a lot of hours for one run and lacks enough interesting ideas past the first 2 levels to make it worth the time investment. Buy only at a discount

Great game probably not for me.

Awesome: Aesthetic design & great polished presentation. Few if any bugs, runs great. Great concept and execution. Tons of stats and math stuff but you don't HAVE to be super into that. Devs have made a ton of balance changes in the last year or two. Guides and information available on wiki, Steam guides and YT channels. Not so awesome for me: You're really looking at melee character, ranged, and magic user with not much else, just variations. Skills are tied to equipment, so give your melee char a wand and hey presto they now throw spells. The game is super-item-focused. Yes there are traits and perks but it's minor stuff until you get into the meat of the game and it's just bonuses, it's not skills as far as I can tell. That makes a character seem more like a weapons platform than a person. Meh. Kind of what put me off PoE. You build things. You're assaulted by a horde. You throw down a ton of damage. You progress gradually. That's it. The balance is tilted toward doing damage. Making a tanky or sneaky/dodging character is generally not needed.

Fun, Dark, and Grindy

This is a lovely dark-themed pixelated turn based game. It's a horde game where you fight off wave after wave until you fight a big boss battle and win the level. The graphics are pleasant pixels, the music is metal-tastic and totally rocks, and the random generated characters say funny things when you slay the undead. The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is because of 2 things: 1- The controller support being wonky and buggy (I eventually gave up after an hour of trying it and resorted to using Mouse & key). 2- This game expects you to lose and replay the levels in order to win. It's disappointing when I can't strategize my way out of tough situations for a well-fought, satisfying victory. The game wants you to grind and lose so you can restart some levels stronger and win. Aside from that, the game rocks! I recommend it.

Strategy at its finest

This game is a lot of fun, easy to pick up and very difficult strategically. It is one of those games that you sort of can't put down simply because of the challange of beating the hoarde of enemies that are coming your way and feeling proud of whiping them out. Great Game ovearll. Definitely recommend.
