Enjoyed the mod?
If you liked the mod, you’re going to love the stand-alone game. We've taken the best elements of the mod, re-written the script, which is now more than twice the length of the original at 80,000+ words, and added plenty of exciting new twists, endings, and surprises. Walk the streets of a brand new city. Get to know re-imagined characters. Solve challenging new puzzles with new gameplay mechanics, and enjoy an all-new orchestral score and professional voice acting. This is the story we always wanted to tell, for you to enjoy all over again - and again.
The Forgotten City may have evolved from a mod for an action RPG, but like the mod, this game is in a totally different genre. It’s a mystery adventure game, developed by a core team of three people. If you don’t go into this expecting a Triple-A action RPG, you’ll have a much better time!
Love the game. Always loved games with a good time loop mechanic (Vision: Soft Reset, Elsinore, The Sexy Brutale, etc.) and I had played the original Skyrim mod. It's been awhile since I played the mod so I don't remember right off all the parallels verses new direction (although I of course remember the main plot beats.)
Great music. Lovely design. Intuitive gameplay. The NPCs still do that weird thing where they're just staring intently at you. Good voice acting. And I loved the canonical ending, esp the final bit where ....... we'll just say there's lots of applause.
Taking off a star for the hidden task related achievements. Why. Are. These. Still. A. Thing. Over. Fifteen. Years. Of. Having. Them. The ONE AND ONLY TIME you should EVER have hidden achievements are for STORY CRITICAL ACHIEVEMENTS. THAT'S IT! Because the point of getting an achievement is to get the player to see more of the game, parts of the game they might not otherwise see - if you force them to unlock the achievement BEFORE TELLING THEM HOW TO DO IT, well that's just absurd. So major immersion breaker there.
But get this game. Seriously. And if it's on sale, then definitely get i.
I found this game to be insanely dull. I mean this is the type of game that I could easily drift off on while trying to play. It is also poorly optimized with constant frame rate drops even when setting everything to low. I read in the forums on Steam that the small development team chose frame rate drops over loading screens in order to get all the graphical assets loaded into each scene. Still, frame rate drops break immersion for me. The gameplay and graphics also feel very outdated. I suppose because this was originally a Skyrim mod. All you do is run between a portal and through the city speaking with lots of characters with dull dialogue choices and completing dull quests in order to solve the dull story like a detective. When you do not solve something correctly, you go back to the portal and return and try it all over again with the same dull dialogue. You cannot steal anything due to messing up the story so inventory management is no fun. There is also very little combat. I experienced no combat during the time I spent with the game. Overall, I really did not enjoy this game.
Cant specify on a public forum but you will know at game start this was made with Current Year, Modern Audiences, Western Media in mind. Hopefully i can refund it but i doubt it
I was really looking forward to a intriguing game about ancient roman culture, but it seems like I have to keep waiting.
Let me explain my dissapointment: You'll have to select one of 2 body types once you start the game. They don't give a dropdown-menu, instead you get to choose betwen 2 coins with different faces on them, so the options aren't really clear. "Cool, maybe thats something like apollonian vs. dionysian or stoic vs. epicurean. Lets see where this will lead us." I thought. After about 10 minutes a NPC refered to me as female, and thats when it hit me: "body type" is just a way to avoid saying gender. I don't want that pc shit in my games, just give me ancient rome please.
