The Excavation of Hob's Barrow

Played with my wife, we loved it. Its writing and art gets to you and creeps you out when it wants. Puzzles make sense, no pixel hunting. Also, good voice acting. Did I mention I love the writing? The storytelling just clicked with me, left me wanting to write a Call of Cthulhu TTRPG adventure for my friends, might do.

So much ambience and good acting.

What an absolute treat this game is. Not too hard, not too easy and brimming with charm.

The characters feel a little weak, but gameplay and story are decent. Personally, I don't like the ending, but it does fit the theme. Different endings would have been nice, though. With just the one ending the decisions you make throughout the game don't feel very impactful.

I could write volumes about The Excavation of Hobb's Barrow. Not only did the game have me hooked from start to finish, bringing me back to the point & click glory days of yore, but it honestly stands as a modern classic. Always a sucker for Lovecraftian stories, this one simply does it right. The characters are fantastic -- most especially the main protagonist, whose phenomenal voice acting totally drew me in -- the graphics and visual style are simply spot on, the atmosphere wonderful, the puzzles engaging, and music and sound are stellar. I couldn't wait to explore more of this world and to see where the narrative was going, which for me is the mark of a truly great title. Highly, highly recommended; I'd give a sixth star if I could =)
