Description

Antiquarian Thomasina Bateman is writing a book on the barrows of England, documenting the treasures she finds buried within. When an intriguing letter summons her to the small village of Bewlay, tucked away in the remote countryside, she sets off by train with her assistant a day behind.

Upon her arrival, however, the mysterious man who summoned her is nowhere to be found. Her assistant never arrives. A stubborn landowner refuses access to the barrow, and the locals are wary of this woman who is traveling alone and (gasp!) wears trousers.

The excavation of Hob’s Barrow is off to a rocky start. And then Thomasina starts having strange dreams…

  • A dark, complex and evolving storyline featuring interwoven elements from real English folklore.
  • Traditional point and click adventure game puzzles and interactions, with an easy modern interface.
  • A cast of intriguing characters, from suspicious villagers to sickly vicars to lordly landowners, all with their own unique stories and motives.
  • A distinct folk horror tone and grounding.
  • Evocative pixel-art graphics, featuring cut-scenes and engaging animations.
  • A suitably atmospheric original soundtrack from The Machine. The Demon. - one half of the duo behind the award-winning "Football Game" soundtrack.
  • Fiends in the furrows, the smell of damp soil, and a cat or two.

Great lovecraftian tale and visuals

Short and good linear story. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am happy to have supported the developers.

LITTLE GEM

- Incredibly ATMOSPHERIC and EERY game set in a GLOOMY small British town called Bewlay. You can hear dogs barking and rain falling at times. Just those casual things that happen in real life and that's one of the things that make this game feel real. - EXCELLENT VOICE ACTING with a very belieavable small town accent. The caracters are distinguishable and well crafted. - INTRIGUING STORY. The more I progressed, the more I felt something bad is going to happen. So the game does not have any ''jump scare'' moments, the fear lies more in the unknown evil lurking in the shadows and that UNEASY FEELING you cannot seem to shake. But that's good. That's what makes it interesting. - Very well FITTING SOUNDTRACK. It isn't cheering nor merry, although there are some happier sounds, it's mostly gloomy and blue - it fits perfectly with the overall atmoshpere of the game. - POLISHED GAMEPLAY. I found no bugs at all. I think the game was nicely polished. The inventory is right up the screen and it appears when you move your cursor to the top. There is a MAP to avoid long walking between places, common thing in point and click games, and TASKS are shown in case you forget what you're supposed to do. When you're out of thing to talk about, Thomasina just says ''There's nothing else I wish to discuss at the moment''. The puzzles are INTUITIVE and relatively easy. Nothing out of the blue. It gets a little more challenging by the last chapter because there are actual mechanisms and codes you have to solve. Besides that, nothing too hard. But it works perfectly with the tone of the game. - I couldn't wait to go back home from work and play this game. Even now as I finished it, I still think about it. It's really unique. Though some complain about the ending, without spoiling too much, I think you kind of expect something of the sort as you progress in the story and know something bad is going to happen. Personally I think it left a great option for a sequel. LOVED IT
