The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind GOTY Edition

Play this game with OpenMW. 1. OpenMW runs natively on Windows, OSX (Mac) and Linux. 2. Although it is still at the 0.39 version you can easily finish the main campaign and 2 expansions. With zero bugs. 3. The load times are reduced to zero, and swimming is much better. 4. Since the goal is to create a real engine, you can use the editor to edit the script mod. Morrowind is a good RPG but not my favourite and I don't think is a masterpiece. But compared to Skyrim it is really good because: 1. you start in a town and with a really easy character creation 2. the main story is actually really good. The bad thing about this game are the quests after Seyda Neen and before the end of Vivec informants... there are a good amount of quests that are just boring and that cannot be skipped. I bought it only to try OpenMW, and to be able to actually enjoy it I had to wait for the main quest plot for few months... without the high 10€ price I would not stuck so long for a game wait to enjoy it (and I play many old games today, this is the only one that I had problem to start). If you want to start play morrowind today I suggest to just get boots of blindness speed as soon as possible and create a 100% magicka resistance magic (guild mage) for 1 sec + sell as many armor as you can to train youself to level 20 + get Levitate spells. Sfortunatamente Bloodmoon rimane in inglese (pare che venga tradotta solo in parte, sfortunatamente non sono così bravo con l'editor da capire come aggiustarla). Well first off the graphics are great,the music and sounds are excellent,the voice acting is wonderful.All in all a very good game indeed.So why not 5 stars I hear you ask? Well that would be because the game seems to crash at random making it extremely annoying.The other thing I find is that since you can do anything,there is just too much to do.it doesnt hold my interest for long enough to get everything that could be done completed.

Elder Scrolls has always been just a pale clone of Gothic. Todd Howard doesn't even care about his games. The lazy "remasters" of the third and fourth parts are proof of that. In comparison, look at the remake of the original Gothic by "Alkimia Interactive". That’s what it means to love and appreciate iconic classics. Gothic has always felt like a real living world where NPCs reacted to the player's actions and behavior. And in the new remake, that feeling is even stronger! This is how you should revive a classic. But Elder Scrolls will only be saved by mods...

It's a shame I don't like this more than I do. The main story is by far the best of any Bethesda-developed title and has tons of interesting quests and characters to meet in its duration. Playing this game as a female character resulted in probably one of the funniest and most unexpected ways of completing an otherwise difficult quest that I've ever seen in a game. In addition, despite its aged graphics, the game's environments and level designs are still incredibly immersive. You can spend easily hours just exploring the landscape from swamps to forests to the dusty wastelands in northern Vardenfell. The architectural design also deserves special mention. Where later ES titles had much more familiar, European-style designs to their settlements and buildings, Morrowind's structures are far more creative and alien looking than anything you'd seen in Skyrim or Oblivion. Where the game falls flat is unfortunately in every other area. Combat is a drab bore with awful controls and a bizarre hit-detection making it far worse. While the magic system is quite varied and expansive, its limited range of animations and visible feedback result in most spells feeling exactly the same their usage. But mediocre gameplay can be overlooked as long as the story and characters are good right? Well, yes and no. Again, the MAIN quest is good, but almost every other quest isn't because virtually non of the NPCs that aren't at least tangentially related to the main story have no personality. This is because rather than having unique dialogue, most NPCs have recycled dialogue that is repeated word-for-word regardless of location, race, or class. Thus, doing sidequests and talking to NPCs, something that is a staple of RPGs, becomes completely pointless, severely impacting your immersion in a gameworld that is dependent on immersion to work. The game isn't bad by any means (I still put around 90 hrs into it). But don't go in with sky-high expectations, or you will be disappointed.

Morrowind it's a great game. The only Con i've encountered is that it doesn't have a quest marker nor there is any mod for it. Nevertheless i want to thank GOG to give us the chance to know better older versions of the Elder Scrolls Series
