Are you ready to dive into a tactical RPG chock-full of charm, humor and crazy characters?!

They are clumsy, inexperienced and feisty but...they’ll have to endure each other’s company to get the dungeon’s treasure.

However, a feeling of déjà-vu quickly arises...

Guide this team of unlikely heroes in an adventure full of humor and chaos!

The Naheulbeuk universe is an original creation by French author John Lang. It started as a very popular audio comedy series parodying role-playing games and heroic fantasy tropes. Now the story is available in English and as a video game for the first time!

Game features

  • Play with seven classic role-playing game characters complementing each other’s skills as you level them up: the Ranger, the Elf, the Dwarf, the Magician, the Ogre and the Thief!

  • Every member of the team has their own skill tree to upgrade their abilities and equipment.

  • Choose one of three additional companions to join the team on their adventure!

  • Exciting turn-based battles, with creative support mechanics between team members.

  • An adaptive difficulty system: from an accessible and fun story mode with simplified combat to the “nightmare mode” where the smallest tactical errors will doom you!

  • An expansive bestiary (more than 100 enemies!) pushing you to think more tactically with every fight.

  • Epic boss battles where you’ll have to muster both strength and smarts to emerge victorious!

  • Hidden and destructive objects (including beer kegs) with surprising status effects will turn the tide of battle for the better...or worse!

  • Explore a huge and surprising dungeon from the cave up to the luxury quarters of the evil lord Zangdar, passing through the goblin iceskating park and even an extremely lively tavern!

  • Escape traps and solve deadly puzzles to unlock the most impressive treasures!

  • Bizarre conversations, absurd situations and unusual encounters await!

  • Experience an exciting main storyline and many side quests for your heroes

Where humor and tactics come together

A fun tactical RPG with a lot of humor. Just don't ask me to pronounce the title. After 30 hours playing, I still have no idea how to say "Naheulbeuk". Pros: +Excellent voice acting for every character in the game. To me, this feature really made the game enjoyable. +Genuinely funny. Some of the jokes do wear a little thin, but overall I really enjoyed the banter between the main characters. +Surprisingly deep tactical combat. Not grognard levels of complexity, but more than I expected from an RPG from an unheard-of developer. +An interesting story that flips a few of the classic RPG tropes on their heads in surprising ways. +Lots of character customization with different skills and stats. Cons: -The A.I. cheats. I experimented with some save-scumming and found that some of the random events during combat weren't so random. Things like critical failures are definitely pre-determined either at the start of combat or possibly before. It also seems that when you're doing too good, the game increases the chances of these critical failures or of an enemy parrying or dodging. -There's a bit too much back-tracking to complete various quests. And the fact that you can't use healing spells outside of combat will send you running to the tavern to rest and heal quite a bit. -The ending sucks. The final boss is so easy that I didn't even realize that it was the final boss until I saw the credits roll. And the story's conclusion comes out of nowhere and left me with a dumbfounded look on my face. I understand what they were going for, but it fell flat and was very unsatisfying. -There were a few bugs. Combat got stuck a few times with the A.I. never finishing its turn. I also had a few crashes to desktop while loading a new zone. This is one of those times when I wish that GOG had half stars in its rating system. This isn't a 5 star game, but its problems don't warrant losing a whole star, IMO. It's a fun adventure with a disappointing ending.

Great story and tactical too!

I have been following this game for a while and thought it might be a bit silly and lite tactical experience, but I was wrong on both counts. It is definitely funny, not laugh-out-loud funny, I don't think any game has ever accomplished that feat, but its irreverent, profane, and referential humor is rewarding the more you explore and talk to the dungeon's inhabitants (for example: Binsc and his pet hamster Moo...). It was also surprisingly tactical and at times and very difficult. I see some reviews say that there is sometimes some random RNG (luck) elements and battles that are too challenging, but I find that if you have experience playing games like XCOM, where you can miss at 95% hit rate, then this won't come as a surprise. The tactics are rewarded if you play close attention to hero skills and combos and their equipped tools (use those BOMBS!). You may get unlucky at times, but if you are willing to reload a save (aka "save scum") you can just apply a new strategy and hope RNG-Jesus blesses you the next time. My only detraction would be the UI. However, I've never found a UI in any RPG that is easy and fun to use. If you get used to filtering by weapon, armor, etc... you'll find it gets easier. Like most of the elements in this game, there is a bit of a learning curve at first, but once you figure it out it gets easier and quicker. In summary, I think this is a fun and funny tactical RPG that takes itself seriously in the right way (its turn-based tactical battles) and humorous in the right way too (with its story and characters). If you can get past an early challenging learning curve you will enjoy the roughly 30-40 hours you will spend.

Slowly...pull on the latch

A very good RPG tactical game with plenty of story and excellent battles. I loved the art style and the fact that all dialogue is voiced. Battles are easy to understand and have plenty of options to explore. I would have liked more battles in the game overall. Skill system is good as well although the ability to reset points comes a little late in the game and there is a slight imbalance regards agility. A star deducted for (a) the sometimes really long dialogue that doesn't seem to know when the joke is over (b) not enough battles for me towards the middle and a lot of walking around talking to NPCs. (c) the skill point system means that always putting at least one point into agility is a sure way to both improve accuracy and get a large number of dodges.

:D fantastic

One of the really few games nowadays wich really catched me instantly. For sure humor is a special thing here. But aside of the little things, imho this game just works very good. Lil story, interesting fights, cute party management, not to complex but nice claiming. Highly recommended. I'll buy every DLC instant ^^. Cant wait for more :).

A great game that you'll hate.

A standard dungeon crawler written in a humorous way. The character interactions will keep you entertained, although keep in mind that the game uses swear words in ample quantities. It adds to the humor, but might turn some people off. However, the gameplay itself is highly RNG dependant. If you played XCOM, you know what to expect. Playing on difficulty 3/4, the game's already pretty save/load heavy. For the majority of characters, focusing your level-ups on increasing hit chances is your go to. Some characters have abysmally low accuracy. Add to that the fact that pretty much every single enemy can also dodge/parry your attacks or resist status effects, everything a chance based on the enemy. There is also a 5% chance for any action to be a critical fail, with severe adverse effects. Most enemies hit hard and can take a beating, even low tier ones. Your ranged characters will get 1 shot, 2 shot if you're lucky. Melee characters don't fare much better as they have about 2x the HP. Armor is basically useless as it's just damage - armor = final damage. Reducing 40 to 30 doesn't mean much. It might be balanced on normal, but anything above is just bad. There is also no way to tell what abilities enemies have. So you'll just have to get half of your party randomly one shot/stunned by a massive AoE nuke that one enemy has to find out. Then reload. You can set up opportunity attack zones, but enemies have enough HP that they can just run through like 4 of them from your melee chars and just beeline to and one shot your backline. As such, the gameplay forces you to just chain CC/disable as many enemies as possible to death because fighting them normally is going to cost you. Also, by default, your characters have pretty bad initiative. You have to heavily invest in it to be able to play before most of the enemies. You can also get unlucky with gear. 2 of my characters were still on starter weapons about 1/4th into the game, dealing little to no damage at that point.
