The Bureau: XCOM® Declassified™

This game COULD have been good, but the absolutely horror of control/key bindings totally wasted this game for me. A lot of times Carter is just running around on the field, without me touching the controls at all. Even worse in combat. Countless times I have died because I could not get out of cover. I press the key but no response. After searching every forum and tech site (ok, maybe not EVERY forum) I found no solution that worked and gave up having played only a couple of missions. A real petty, because I absolutely love the story and the feel of the game.

Reading through reviews I was thinking that this game must be really bad and clunky. It is not. The wall hug mechanic is a bit out of date but manageable, still my biggest con. Other than that it is your typical 3rd person shooter from that era, or more from the end of that era, that delivers a good but cheesy alien story with cover based shooting, squad commands and a lot of flanking. A bit short though, played through the Steam version within 6-8 hours. A great part of the downvotes were old Xcom fans who expected another turn based strategy game, which we got after this game, so grab this game when it is on sale and have some cheesy b-movie fun for a weekend!

Paid 4 euros for it because that's what it's worth. There's not a lot of stuff in it, it feels very austere. The feeling of "cool! I'm fighting aliens in the 60s" wears off and then you're left with a very basic squad shooter and a grind. The campaign is relatively short and the lead character is an ape, he mostly growls his lines of dialogue. You can't even wear a hat for most of the game, it's that bad. It may not even be worth the 4 euros, I'm not sure.

This is a great game, criticized for the exact reason that me and friends love it: it's not like standard XCOM games. As in, it's not turn based, top down strategy.. It's a third person squad shooter, with a great story! It always annoyed me to see people hate this game, and give bad reviews, just because it's not turn based. This game came out on Xbox 360, well during that time period, and having a copy on PC (especially GOG!) is totally worth picking up! If you like alien invasion, third person shooter/action games, big stories, and single player with the option of co-op, this is a great buy!

This game is really well done and if it was its own series, rather than XCOM, it would have a bigger following. The game concepts are really cool and I was impressed with the gameplay. The only complaint I have, is that it is too short. I remember this game when it was supposed to be a First-person take on the series. I wish the game was bashed so hard by XCOM fans ( I am one as well). Hopefully, games like these come around more, cause it has some great ideas!
