The Book of Unwritten Tales 2

Far too many dialogue options peppered with far too many jokes/puns (that really don't need to be there because they interrupt the story like a persistant cougher in the cinema). I wanted to like it but after leaving the palace it just got longer, more drawn out, more dialogue, more (naff) jokey as though it was poking you to stay interested.

This game was long, sweet and gorgeous and I have been charmed by the characters such that I want to see the next chapter. One of the best point and clicks ever despite a nasty bug in chpt 3 that you may or may not encounter which required a fix using an xml editor in order to not lose hours of progress. A google search showed the way and it worked. I have pasted the fix here, not sure who I borrowed it from but you can find the thread on steam forums - all credit to that guy; First you have to close the game then open the corresponding savegame in an editor. Search for Remove in that section Furthermore search for: and there add the following: in that section. The second readds the balloon to the inventory and the first removes it from the wheel. The first is required to trigger the electricity cable part. The second so that one can add the balloon.

I do also own a hard copy of this game and I recognize, they did not fixed their linux specific bugs in 10 years! The launcher app is linked against an ancient version of libgstreamer. For a fix it would have been sufficient to just start the game instead of the launcher, a two line fix!

Having played all the games in this franchise i would say over all this is the best however i am not a huge fan of ivo's redesighn i understand her design was in need of an update but i just didnt feel they matched her original caracter very well and then there is the ending of the game being a huge cliffhanger and the after credits scene leaving you with more questions that we may never have answers for hopfully one day we get another game to actually wrap things up for the franchise

This game turned out to be about twice longer than I was expecting, it had quite a number of game play blocking bugs (that can be worked around by loading from a save slot) and minor hiccups in the text and speech. But that didn't make me dislike the story, I completed this game with pleasure (not without a walk-through guide, but still). It was more than worth its price.
