Legend foretold it. Prophecies predicted it. Chosen ones chose to believe in it. Now the adventure saga continues. Join Wilbur, Ivo, Nate and Critter in another classic point-and-click adventure in the wicked world of Aventásia. Help them fulfill their destiny. A destiny as yet unwritten.

The Tale
A few years have passed since our heroes heroically defeated the arch-witch Mortroga. And their lives, like the lives of most people in Aventásia, are still in turmoil. The War of the Two Towers is over, but the wounds it left upon the land are still bleeding.
The gnome Wilbur Weathervane is struggling with his new job as a teacher at the reopened School for Wizardry and Witchcraft. His magic wand is having a mind of its own and an assassination plot against the arch-mage overshadows the first democratic elections in Seastone.
Faced with political intrigues that threaten the delicate balance of peace, Wilbur is in dire need of his old friends. But the elf princess Ivo and the adventurer Nate have, after a brief romantic interlude, gone their separate ways.
Ivo has returned to her gilded cage in the elf kingdom, overprotected by her controlling mother.Nate along with his trusty companion Critter has been taken prisoner on the flying island of his arch-enemy the Red Pirate.
But fate does not rest. A darkness has fallen upon the land, or rather, a pinkness. A magic force is turning mighty beasts into fluffy plush puppies and towering castles into oversized dollhouses. Every world needs its heroes. However unlikely they may seem.

A Must Buy!

A lot of love went into the making of this series of point and click games. The Book of Unwritten Tales has a fantastic and comical storyline. Full of characters, you will meet along the way, that will keep you wrapped up in the story for hours. If you tired of the very serious point and click, then I recommend this game highly. It's so different, fun and a barrel of laughs.

Great game with poor ending

In all ways but one it's a perfect adventure game. The graphics are nice, the puzzles almost all make sense and can be solved without resorting to walkthroughs, the characters are are a diverse, colorful bunch and jokes are mostly genuinely funny. However, the game ends ubruptly and on a cliffhanger, almost as if it just ran out of script rather then reached any sort of an ending. It's all the more frustrating as the story is really quite engaging up to that point (though maybe not quite as good as in the first game). All in all, it's well worth playing if you like point & click adventure games, but you might just want to wait untill the third game, which hopefully will provide a satysfying conclusion, is closer on the horizon.

Saving is necessary

It is a beautiful story with great chcracters and graphics. A worthy continuation of the first tale. So in principle a 5 star review, if it is not for a few dead-end bugs. So just keep in mind to save often in seperated savegames and don't relie on the autosave and you'll have a few hours of fun.

Reunion with old friends

I recently bought this game, years after it's release, and enjoyed every minute of it. While I considered "The beast chronicles" a bit lame and not remotely as funny as the first game, BoUT2 brings me right back to the good old days. What I enjoy the most about this series is the humour. It is packed full of nerdy cultural references, from Star Wars to Terry Pratchetts Diskworld, from J.R. Tolkien to RL-RPG. These references make you listen and watch closely to find all of them, just like easter eggs. I was completely drawn into the game with its lovely characters. It is very long, gave me several afternoons of cosy socks & hot tea playing fun. It is a bit slower than its predecessor, yes, but since I too have aged I still find it very enjoyable. The only bug I encountered was a sound bug, where the voices suddenly sounded like they came from far away or out of a tin bucket. That occurred a few times throuout the game, but didn't bother me.

Very good but with issues

The game itself is great. The story is mostly entertaining, even though the ending isn't the most satisfactory ever and could probably use a third (technically fourth) installment. The main problem are technical issues - on several occasions I had a problem with character voiceover, where a particular sentence in a dialogue would not be spoken, or would be spoken very silently, only to work normally in the next sentence. The game also forze on me twice. And then there's the infamous "dead end bug" mentioned in several reviews already. If you don't have an older save and don't want to replay about half the game again, your only chance is to edit the save game .xml file to fix it yourself... If these minor (and one major) inconvenciences didn't plague the game, I would happily say this is one of the very best AGs of the 2010s. Regardless, it's still highly recommended for adventure games enthusiasts as it is.
