Love Tex!

I LOVE the whole Tex series!! My only complaint is that I can only play on my 'old' laptop which is a Vista....cant play on my newer desktop which is Windows 8. I wish GOG would make this game compatible with Windows...

Still a fine game

If your on win7 64 you may need to change compatibility to win98 (if the game crashes like it did for me). The gog install doesn't add to windows game folder correctly (I fixed the broken registry items and all was fine). The game starts with a new case to solve and soon you'll be on your way. The ingame graphics are a nice step up from the earlier Tex games. But, I found the controls to be a big step back [at first] and then a slight step back after a while of adjustment. I mainly use a combination of keyboard & mouse + a lot of shift. The movement overlay is interesting, but too slow and cumbersome. The ingame video cutscenes are not going to fill your whole screen on today's monitors and resolutions, but its still good enough. The puzzles range from easy to brain racking. If you just want to get through the game in a timely fashion - I skipped and finished many from using 911. At least one requires ALT+F to skip. Sometimes you have no idea what your supposed to do so you might be running around in circles and may never notice something. I'm sure some have the patience and nothing else to do to spend time doing that and not look into the ingame hints section. There are a few times where the hints section does not help. It doesn't move onto the next step. So a faq in the internet might be needed. The game is fairly long. I didn't time it but it has to be at lest 10 hours if cheating the entire time. I probably about spent 15 or so. For a while you really don't have to save often but later on there are certain points where you better. Overall, I liked it enough to say if you like these kind of games and can deal with the feel of old games on modern PCs, then you will like this one. I liked it enough to keep at it to the very end.

Great game - where is Mac compatibility?

I played this game when it was first released, and it strained the processing capabilities of my old desktop (I did have a DVD drive on it, but unfortunately it could not cope with the provided disc, so I was left with 8 CD-ROM things to swap). Still and all, I felt it a fine addition to the canon (even though it re-iterated a previous adventure). So, my question to GOG is - Why tease we Mac users with the other Tex games but not allow us to enjoy "Overseer" on our swanky, new, over-powered machines? Cheers.

A bit disappointing

The Tex Murphy series had reached its pinnacle with The Pandora Directive. In Overseer we get even better FMVs but the story this time around is kinda lacking. Basically, it's Mean Streets again. You no longer have multiple endings or even different paths to take as in TPD. Acting is mostly on par with TPD, though it's lacking the massive cast TPD had. Still, there are some great actors like Michael York or Henry Darrow. You still get to choose between Entertainment and Gamer Mode, although there is not such a huge difference to them like in TPD. You can bypass some puzzles in E Mode and get extra points for solving puzzles quickly in G Mode. The puzzles are your basic Tex Murphy fare with some real mindbenders and many jigsaw letters and photos. Conversations are still played out by selecting one of three options, but those have no real effect on the story for the most time. A bit on the downside is also the fact that you get a massive cliffhanger at the end of the game that never got resolved in a game. There's still hoping for Project Fedora, though....
