How did the world get so ugly so fast? We were almost there, and then Gomez got scragged by a heavy turret and Slugger learned the difference between horseshoes and hand grenades. That left Rossi and me.
"There's the dropship!" Rossi screams. "We're outta here, Nik!"
"Rossi wait!" But it's too late....

"Rossi wait!" But it's too late. A particle beam turns Rossi into a smear on the landscape. The pirate sniper makes a quick sprint for cover... not quick enough.
"Get aboard, Nikola!" your radio squawks. Suddenly, a hulking tank crests the hill launching a deadly hail of missiles at your position.
The radio crackles: "Nikola? Nikola, are you there? Come in Squad Leader..."

I cant believe to see THIS title here on gog! This game changed my life! It made me buy the very first virtual reality headset available - the VFX-1 Forte - and i played like 2000h in this game. If you want a deep tactical shooter - this game is for you!
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forte_VFX1 - i still own this one :)
NOTE: If game doesn't go fullscreen with you, change the dosboxTerraNova.conf output=openglnb and aspect=true. Also while in-game pressing 'O' opens the options menu where you can change to higher resolution (320x400), setting isn't saved if you quit though.
Terra Nova has been one of my favorite games since I bought its box version back in 90s. Although Quake came out the same year with some very nice 3D graphics, the engine in TN was very advanced: water reflections, weather effects, destructible environment (not the terrain though), day/night missions etc. And although the controls were bit clunky it didn't matter much if you were nimble on your fingers. The FMV cutscenes were ok quality in comparison to some of the worse games of the time and the story is compelling, you learn to use your teammates properly, command their tactics and actions and maybe even trust them to do their jobs. Maybe even learn to like some of them.
Game itself (like mentioned by others) has a very simulation feel to it. Everything you see is attempting to immerse you in game. Your vision is constrained by the hud, map can be set to show sensor and weapon ranges, depending on weapon choices the weapons actually shoot from the side you set the weapon to in the outfit. You can give quite detailed instructions to teammates (go here, follow this route, engage at will, repair that guy, etc.), you can control remote drones to scout areas and and even setting navpoints is made to look like AR.
Missions are briefed by clear videos (or text, your choice), there's occasional story advancing FMV cutscenes and while the story is completely linear the missions are quite varied ranging from midnight scout missions, via escort and demolish tasks to full-blown warzones. All the enemies, weapons, factions have loads of background information to delve through and you gain medals for particular achievements during missions.
If you don't mind the dated graphics, I warmly recommend to try this classic.
This was an amazing game when it came out, the tactical squad based action strategy was groundbreaking in 1996. The timing was just a bit off for success though with no online multiplayer and slightly dated graphics just when 3D acceleration was making a huge leap forward. Terra Nova is still an all time classic in my book!
I loved this game when I found it by accident way back when, and I love that GOG brought it back for us to play!
It's not a complicated or even advanced game by todays standards, but it is fun to play, and pulls you in with what's going on. The sandbox is great to tool around in, yet at the same time the actual game can be addictively hard to complete.
Thank you GOG for answering our call.
I loved everything about this game, the mechanics, the story the fmv cutscenes.
It's a fun game that left me wanting more, I wanted to know more about the story and continue having engaging fights with team mates.
Heck, dropships and armored warriors.... do you need more?
