Description

This game includes Teleglitch: Die More Edition and Teleglitch: Guns and Tunes DLC

In a cold, dark future dominated by mega-corporations, a small lonely planet on the edge of habitable space is the site of a shadowy research facility specializing in necrotic tissue reactivation. You are a scientist who has suddenly awoken to the realization that you are the lone survivor. The rest of the facility’s personnel have all been killed – micro-chipped and reactivated as combatants by the facility’s central processing AI.

Teleglitch: Die More Edition is a roguelike top-down shooter with retro pixel graphics. Featuring procedurally generated maps that change with each play through, you will never experience the same facility twice. Clutch your gun, walk down the dark corridors and enter each new room hoping those last few rounds of ammunition will be enough. Feel the anxiety, the paranoia and the sheer terror of Teleglitch.

Key Features

  • Over 20 types of enemies to combat
  • More than 40 types of weapons and items
  • 10 levels that radically change their structure every time you play
  • 10+ hours of play time (it gets harder the further you get)
  • Detailed database with full dossiers of each monster
  • Scavenge random equipment to craft new and deadly gear like The Can Gun (empty can + nails + explosives)
  • A sinister narrative filled with greedy military corporations covert experiments
  • The risk of permanent death creates an atmosphere of fear and dread

The Die More Edition features:
  • 5 bonus levels
  • Additional items and weapons
  • Upgraded and more deadly enemy AI
  • Expanded dossiers and lore content

It's working, I assume...

The graphic is so low resolution, it doesn't even allow you full screen. That was a given though, so my complaint, more of a warning goes to, that this is NOT a 2D game, but something that uses such ancient engine as Alone in the Dark 1, just has serious design problems on top of it. The REAL problem with this thin is the difficulty-jump from lame everyday shooter to "unpredictable tiny dots jumping all over the screen and you have only a single shot projectile weapon which is slow, AND those blots shoot back, AND you don't even have armour". You know, the old games always gave you a chance to survive based on your skill. Even Diablo 1 in its crappy glory of cheap invisible hoards and such gives you that. This? This is just nonsense masochism where you will die, no matter your skill. But otherwise it works. If you have nothing against Commodre 64 level stuff (only harder), then nothing prevents you.

No Linux version, AKA GoG shitting on us

This game has a native linux version. But GoG decided, once more, to punish its users for not using Steam. As such, there is a linux version, but GoG doesn't provide it. After all, who cares about linux players, right? One more thing making GoG a worse platform with time.

Be wary of permadeath

Permadeath doesn't really work for me. The game is a true roguelike and each death results in having to play from the beginning. Apart from database entries and some crafting options there is no gain from beating all those stages. Time invested in each run is wasted. Procedural generation doesn't really add anything to that as basic functions of items won't change. I suppose that in this case it adds some horror value to each fight. But I don't actually dread the monsters but the fact that I will play even more if I fail. Playing more is a punishment for dying. It's literally Hell. I recognize that it isn't really fair to judge the game based on the stupid limitations of the genre. So it's otherwise fine I guess - made at least competently. Artstyle is consistent and mechanics seem to be working well. I add one star for the production values (and because GOG automatically adds one). Otherwise the rating would be zero as I'm completely unable to enjoy games like that. Permadeath being an OPTION would made this game unimaginably more fun. Purists could still feel rewarded by separate set of achievements for people playing with permadeath on.
