System Shock Demo

I've never played the original System Shock and I've played a bit of the System Shock 2, not liking it all that much, even though, I'm a huge Bioshock fan. But, I noticed the demo and now that System Shock is starting to get lots of love and attention, I decided to try it out. First off, the graphics are beautiful. Secondly, the pick-up animations when finding certain items reek of Bioshock, which made the game feel better and more realistic. 3rd, it nailed the creepy atmosphere and my heart jumped out of my throat at times. 4th, it's very simple and not as complicated as SS2. The complexity of SS2 turned me off, but I will definitely be playing more of SS2 after playing this and give it another chance. My only complaint was that it was a little short fr a demo, and could've shown off a little more... but other than that give it a try and see what you think of it. I definitely enjoyed it and I will try and support this game on Kickstarter. I'm sure fans of the first will definitely enjoy. Thank you for reading my first GOG review. I feel its completely unfair to nitpick about missing features and bugs as its clearly marked as a pre-alpha free concept demo, so I will review it as such. In short, it oozes atmosphere and potential. They've done an amazing job of capturing what the original felt like so long ago, and its been brought right up to date. I think it will be an amazing game once its finished.

I haven't played the previous titles and as such have no nostalgic feelings towards the series within me that this demo could summon. As such, I was left wholly unimpressed, and will just sit back and wait how the final game will turn out to be.

This has a ton of bad reviews. But it's just a proof of concept, and sure, a bit rough. Alphas always are The Doom 3 alpha was a janky mess, too. HL2, too. So give these devs a break. They wanted to gauge interest, not convince you to buy the final game with a polished demo. That comes later. First, they have to decide it's worth making the game. Which they did after getting positive feedback on it and fan interest. The devs whole strategy worked well, and I'm glad they decided to go forward with it.

I'm subtracting a star because I couldn't pick up the head on the bench in the medic area, and was thus unable to complete my human jigsaw. One interesting feature, though, was that after picking up two arms from there, they wouldn't actually vanish from my inventory when dropped. Long story short, the entire demo area is now decorated in arms. Beyond that, I like the feel of the demo quite a lot.
