Colonize Mars and discover her secrets, with minimal casualties.

Welcome Home! The time has come to stake your claim on the Red Planet and build the first functioning human colonies on Mars! All you need are supplies, oxygen, decades of training, experience with sandstorms, and a can-do attitude to discover the purpose of those weird black cubes that appeared out of nowhere. With a bit of sprucing up, this place is going to be awesome!

Surviving Mars is a sci-fi city builder all about colonizing Mars and surviving the process. Choose a space agency for resources and financial support before determining a location for your colony. Build domes and infrastructure, research new possibilities and utilize drones to unlock more elaborate ways to shape and expand your settlement. Cultivate your own food, mine minerals or just relax by the bar after a hard day’s work. Most important of all, though, is keeping your colonists alive. Not an easy task on a strange new planet.

There will be challenges to overcome. Execute your strategy and improve your colony’s chances of survival while unlocking the mysteries of this alien world. Are you ready? Mars is waiting for you.

  • Building a sustainable colony in space - Building on a planet not fit for human life challenges you to build a smart, functional colony. Bad planning isn’t about traffic jams, it’s about survival of your colonists. You really don’t want rolling blackouts in a city constructed in a place without oxygen.
  • Individually simulated colonists - Each colonist is a unique individual with problems and strengths that influence the needs and behavior of the other colonists. Things can get really interesting if your chief scientists develops alcoholism after one too many long nights in the lab.
  • Futuristic Space Dome construction - Retro-futuristic super structures housing colonists, factories and commercial buildings with their own “neighborhood personality.” Create colonies that value science over everything else, while tired workers drink their pay away at a local bar, or attempt a utopia among the stars.
  • Exploration of Mars’ secrets - Inspired by the classic sci-fi of Asimov and Clarke, Surviving Mars holds many secrets. During each playthrough players may encounter one of Mars’ individually crafted mysteries. Uncovering these secrets might bring your colony great fortune, or terrible ruin. What is that sphere that manifested itself outside colony HUB B, and is it friendly?
  • Randomized research tree - Combine static and random research through experimentation, which allows for a different experience for each journey through the game. Attain new scientific breakthroughs by exploring the uncharted terrain of Mars's surface.
  • Unique retro-futuristic aesthetic - A sleek, modern take on the bright futurism of the 1960s. A time of exploration and adventure.
  • Expansive mod support - Craft your own fantastic buildings, parks or even a mystery to share through Surviving Mars’s extensive and convenient modding tools. Share your finest creations with the community to build the perfect society.

great game

if you enjoy micromanagement games its good, you can tweak almost anything, hand holding is limited but has an ingame manual/ encyclopedia that helps. its best to stick with it first time around even it turns to hell on mars you learn more playing it on the mechanics etc and the AI qwerks, its not broken, its called 'surving mars' not 'easy mode on mars'. recommended expansions are worth it too but no need early on and the game is good without too

This game will keep you coming back

Surviving Mars is somewhat unique to other RTS type games that I have played in the past. It has some elements rom greats like Civilization and elements from Colonization and others where you are able to get supplies and people from Earth. It blends all of these elements together quite well as you research and build your way to a successful colony on Mars. What sets this apart is that you also have to manage the different elements from bots to that of domes and the various breakdowns that can happen to them along the way. I will be honest, I had to restart the training map a few times as I got used to how the game mechanics work. The single player portion of this game is fascinating to play and when you look at the clock you will see more time has passed then you might have wanted to. It really grabs your attention in many ways. Not only do you have to research and build but you have to explore the surface around you for resources and anomalies that will help you ro research even more for your colony. As to the colonists themselves you have a wide range that you are able to choose from. You can even get v very specific as the the sex, gender, age and other factors that you want to have with you on Mars. Be warned though, the more restriction you put on the colonists, the fewer there will be to choose from. Keep this in mind as you will need to have certain professionals needed to be able to manage and service the furious buildings that you have built on mars. This is not a set and forget type of game to play. You will be managing it all, from charging vehicles and droids to making sure that you have enough food, water and air for your colonists. You also want to make sure to keep them happy with enough distractions to make them want to keep working. Your bots will also need to be charged and survived so that you can keep collection items that you will need to build with as well as send back to earth to be sold. This is a game that is worth playing.

Great addition to the genre

I would recommend to any fan of the genre. My first entrance to this genre was Banished, and subsequently Planetbase. I sunk 100+ hours into both game, and have already sunk the same amount into this game. I have played two "complete" games, and intend to play more in the future to better apply the strategies I have honed. Pros: - Visually great (NOTE: I play on the highest settings) - Great blending of strategic and tactical aspects - There are many paths to success. The various combinations of sponsors and professions allow for unique playstyles to emerge. - The game is captivating. The first day I played it, I didnt go to bed and played it for nearly 20 hours straight. Cons: - Super (Ultra?) micro-management. This is somewhat of a Pro (for me), but will be very off-putting to many. - There is no "end game". At some point you just have to call it quits and start a new game. - There is no way to auto-accept trade offers that match your trading pads. This is VERY annoying, and makes you want to stop offering trades after a while.

A fun exploration into city building

I really enjoy the game. It has many different options for starting and play styles. Well worth the base game, and the Green planet and Space race DLCs are nice additions.

A typical paradox game

The premise is titillating. Absolutely love the idea of terraforming Mars. This game however only allows you to get a few hours in before it throws a great big spanner in the works every.single.time. It's a plague, it's a never-ending storm, it's an energy crisis, it's always something. Paradox Games just loves to make these kinds of games that go well for enough that you think the game is cool, then they destroy it, no matter what the difficulty. Surviving Mars is no exception. I really want to be able to recommend this, but the fun was completely gone after the third time I hit that game mechanic. And for some reason, although this game lends itself perfectly to it, there is no multiplayer or co-op. Just imagine being able to terraform Mars **together** with your best friends - either in bases together or separately on the map. Well, keep dreaming, because it'll never happen. At least the game looks nice and the audio is stellar...
