Do NOT buy
Great game but unplayable. Lots of bugged quests, cutscenes skiping, first raider cutscene freezes the game. Dont try it if u have Windows 11

been watiting on this RPG!
Heyyo, I remember long ago trying Summoner on a demo CD from Computer Gaming World Magazine... it blew me away with how much fun it was and how badass the summoning special effects were for the time lol... it's still a very solid RPG. Highly recommend trying it out.

Nostalgia at its finest
I remember opening up the case to this bad boy after my parents had gotten it at a pawn shop that a friend worked at. A small white sticker with a 10 written on it in permanent marker. Let me be clear by saying i still own the ps2 version of the game. it was quite a world, and to this day still is reasonably vast. The main cityscape is still etched in my mind's eye, and the want for an over priced Dirk dagger stands out as a lingering memory. But beyond that first foye into the games first city my memory gets foggy. Skimming through the screen shots i came across one of the character talking to an iron/stone golem. That exact line of dialogue brought back a bit more of my memory. I remember crawling around under the city trying to break into to depths of the castle only to remember a vague yet certain sense of "all that (6 hours) for HIM TO SAY THAT!?" and thats what stands out to me about this game. it has a sense of agonizing pace to it with quests ending with a bad taste in your mouth as you feel that many were retroactively discovered to be pointless in nature and execution. The games combat system is actually all D&D based and follows some older version of the ruleset. its basically a videogame interpretation of sitting around with friends playing a game and having dungeon master who has great ideas and plans.... but really poor quest resolvement and emotional bond building skills. its on my list of games to pick back up and finish just to say i did after a decade or more of it sitting in various boxes collecting dust and crossing my path occasionally reminding me to pick it back up. One last note. Go look on youtube for the infamously hilarious post-credits cutscene. it has no spoilers, it is just a skit that is absolutely hilarious.

Hidden Gem
One of my favourite games of all time. If the most important thing you ask of an RPG game is an interesting and engaging story, with plot twists and good characters then this is a game for you. Indeed, the graphics haven't aged all that well, the fight mechanic is a bit clunky (somewhat of a prototype of what would be the fight mechanic in the first Witcher game) and the camera tend to be annoying but the story is well worth suffering those inconviniences. After all those years of replaying and reliving this experience I don't even mind them and I couldn't recommend it more. Also, the music is absolutely beautiful and you'll find yourself haunted by the melancholy and emotion of some of the tracks.

This Game Should Have Been Remastered...
I feel bad that Volition is no more before they could have a chance to make and updated version of Summoner. This is one of their classic and most fantastic first games before they made the Saint's Row series. It is a must play.
