Good

Out of experience with, uh.., many... of these types of VNs, I didn't expect a whole lot, mostly some boobs before I go to bed. It's so good, though! I absolutely love the character building and while I don't particularly like the MC, he isn't a complete idiot and I can very much relate to his reasoning most of the time. The girls are, as usual, too much supermodel for my tastes, but make up for that flaw by being interesting, I actually want to get to know them better. Definitely recommendable if you enjoy the slow build-up of meaningful relations to the characters. And slow it is - I'm about eight hours in and kissed a girl.

This game is not for mature adults, maybe for the 18-25yo bracket. There is no spicy (sexual) content, there is pretty much nothing that I would call NSFW, and the nudity is limited to boob shots of four or five females scattered spacingly through the story. The girls all have cutey-pie faces, big eyes and perfect figures, it's just too much that nobody stands out, but some of them do have likeable characters. The protagonist is a broad replica of a Final Fantasy RPG teenage PC/NPC, with matching hairdo. The graphics are very good (RTX 3060 12gb), and I like the way they quite often use variable focus to pinpoint something off-centre in any given scene. 3 stars infers my opinion is reserved until a look at season 2.

Looks pretty held back by clumsy writing

Games definitely not terrible, just a bit eh. All the reviews saying how great the writing is got me to give it a go. I can only assume that they are kids, cause this is far from great writing. Honestly reads like fan fiction, specifically Final Fantasy 8 fan fiction. The MC has clearly been modeled after Squall, is emo like squall, gets a face scar like Squall, has an internal monologue whining about his pain like Squall, is a jerk to everyone yet someone has friends and love interests...like Squall. Interactions feel weird and unnatural, people we just met will start soliloquizing at me like we are in a Shakespeare play. A lot of weird phrases and and incorrect references to western culture (calls jelly beans gummy bears, pepperoni pizza "salami", teenagers drinking in bars, and why are we playing inter gender basketball? don't know!), and the writer clearly has no understanding of what a university is, looks like a high school, or maybe its a community college? either way its wrong. Dudes in desperate need of a western editor to go over the script more thoroughly. Still there is some intrigue in the building romances, and its very pretty. Just don't expect a well crafted literary master piece, more like 50 shades written in Germany and run through google translate

Outstanding in Nearly Every Way

I had heard a lot of hype about Summer’s Gone before finally playing it. I had heard that it stood out in the AVN genre as it actually had zero sex scenes but was worth it for the fantastic story. After finishing season one I can agree with both of those points. While it would have been nice to have some great lewd scenes to go with everything else at the same time the rest more than makes up for it. There was also a decent explanation as to why there were no lewd scenes which I won’t spoil. The story is fantastic. The characters were all interesting to me and I can’t wait to learn more about them in future seasons. The pacing was great as I can’t think of any parts of season one that dragged on or were boring to me. The production values were top notch from the animation, models, objects, to the menus and music. The game actually felt like a full season unlike many visual novels that split this way and feel like a short setup for the next one. Even if there were no season two there was so much which took place and so much growth and exploration with characters that I would almost be content albeit sad. I played Summer’s Gone on Linux. It never crashed and I didn’t notice any bugs or spelling errors at all. You can save any time you want and there are fifty four save slots. One oddity I found was the API was listed as WineD3D. This was weird because I was playing the native Linux version and usually Ren’Py games use OpenGL that way. In any case I had no issues so I didn’t really care.
