Great despite some flaws
I've only played the single player version, so I cannot comment on multiplayer functionality. This game turned out to be much more complicated than I anticipated. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the purchase, and bought the Utopia DLC. What to expect: a long, involved, complicated game where you need to balance all elements of an economy, research, space navy, and other aspects in your part of the galaxy. You may want to play a *full* game with no other species first to understand what you're getting yourself into. Play through to an endgame crisis to understand how it will impact you. It's also fun, albeit at times frustrating when a hostile neighbor decides to keep beating on you. Galactic haters abound. Some flaws/frustrations: there are errors in the code regarding math behind both production on planets and pricing of traded goods on the market. For example, using Ix'Itar (Utopia DLC), I altered my species' genes, then the amenities and stability went haywire on my homeworld. Structures on the homeworld meant to increase amenities didn't impact them. The per-unit pricing is also wrong when buying between, say, 5000 and 10,000 units. The per unit price should vary significantly, but it doesn't change. I didn't pay attention before because there's so much else I was trying to understand, so I don't know if it's solely for this species or all of them. In-game guidance is hard to find or is non-existant. How far should I expand my empire beyond administrative capacity? How can I trade lots of resources to other species without clicking 1000 times? (Hold down shift and click; it'll enter 100.) There is a wiki online; have it handy with another screen, smartphone, etc. Overall, I love the game, I'm addicted, and I intend to buy more expansions.
