What can be said that hasn't already been said by everybody else? Try it, love it and repeat, It was a Gem the day it came out!! and it will be a Gem 100 years in the future. It's simple, fun, and fun. Did I mention it is really fun.
PS. Make sure you also get "Steamworld Dig 1" and "Steamworld Dig 2", plus "Steamworld Build" when it comes out next month.
I love first two games in SteamWorld series. Strategy is not my thing so I skipped this entry. After years I decided to give SteamWorld Heist a chance and it's amazing! If you look for just one more mission type of game you won't be disappointed.
I'm haven't played many games in this genre, but I can say that this is a great game. There's enough depth to the weapons and combat to keep things interesting. For example, since you have to manually aim your weapons, is it better to use a gun with better stats and no laser sight, or a slightly weaker gun with a laser sight that lets you hit more consistently? Throw in various characters with different abilities and you've got a lot of room for interesting team builds.
It took me about 10ish hours on a first playthrough on experienced difficulty. I think the game is a good length with it ending before overstaying it's welcome. I don't have much experience with the genre, so I found the game to be a good level of challenge on that difficulty, with a fair few mission failures throughout until I found a nice team composition.
Overall, I'd recommend this game at full price, and it's a steal if you can get it on sale.
I enjoyed playing SteamHeist indeed. It provides an unique atmosphere with light humor, and a fair portion of challenge. So, it short:
+ Nice graphics
+ Lovely soundtracks
+ Well balanced playable characters
+ Random generated fight zones respecting each level specifics.
- Not well optimized (I expect my computer to be little bit cooler while playing 2d games)
- Final boss was quite disappointing, as for me.
