STASIS

Stasis is a book example how horror should be done. No real jump scares here. Just a story that starts weird, progresses through creepy and ends at horrifying. And even though there are monsters the real horror lies elsewhere. The story really pulls no punches. Mechanically the game is functional. A few puzzles are a bit obtuse due to limited information but since the lack of information is a stylistic choice I can't really hold that against the game. The game looks and sounds great while still leaving enough for the players imagination to fill in and being all the better for it. If terms like 'adult fear' or 'body horror' don't drive you away you really should try this game.

I didn't care much about the "point and click" aspect of the game, but the atmosphere it creates is amazing. Both the visuals and the lore (in the form of your classic log/email) contribute to said atmosphere in their own right. About the horror, it's alright I guess. There are a few moments I found really, really disturbing, but it's not "scary" if that makes sense. It's probably got something to do with the gameplay - most of the time, in a point and click adventure, if you don't do anything you'll be fine. That's probably what gives you a sense of security that diminishes the horror factor. So yeah, pretty good. It's obvious some serious passion went into creating this world, and it shows. I wish they had the same kind of passion for designing menus and option settings tho.

I will say this right off the bat... I am terrible at point and click games although I do find them fun. Stasis was a very good experience even if I did have to look up a walk through here and there because I got stuck. One of the most important things in horror games is the atmosphere and Stasis as that in spades. With a good story and soundtrack I would recommend this game to anyone that is a fan of horror games in general. If you are not good at point and click games there is always a walk through and I know that might be heresy to some gamers but I would like fans of horror games to see what this game has to offer. Gets a big thumbs up.

If you want to feel cold in your heart at what the future holds, this is the game for you.

Sets are great, early worldbuilding is interesting. But the game is not particularly interesting. The narrative boils down to "family", but only for the protagonist and has no real conviction about ALL of the other people? It just comes across as an extremely shallow plot and one not aided by some of the cut scenes and voice direction. I'm not mad I finished it, but I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone but those most hardcore into atmospherics. And I definitely wouldn't play it again.
