Starship Troopers: Terran Command

Game teaches you from beginning how to handle units. Learn in and you will win. Be brave, make deep strikes and quickly back. Speed is your friend - better fast weak unit than slow, strong one. Game gave me what i expected and i dont feel sorry for spending my money. On the other side - i miss a lot tactical pause. one star down, because some people just have worse eyesight and fast paced strategy was difficult to beat - you fight with the bugs and with controls.

I adore Starship Troopers but I would rather play a 10 year old shareware game than this trash. It's "Starship Troopers" But every unit dies by vanishing, no unit death animations at all. That alone is enough to show the developers had no true heart in it. Controls absolute suck, gameplay is constantly interupted by cutscenes that just don't need to exist, the sarcastic dialogue is enough and it's not good. It fits the theme but it is just awful self referencial nonsense. We get it, we're here for the movies. Maybe you could have at least tried to bring something new but it's just the advertising skits from the movie over and over and over. HAHA good reference. Product Refunded

Gameplay is engrossing, but if there were any blemishes the game has, it's that pathfinding for your friendly units is not consistent, which means you will need to be good at micromanaging your units. It also doesn't help that using hotkeys can only be used for individual units and structures, which means if you are the type that likes using hotkeys in your RTS, don't bother. Better be fast on the mouse controls.

The first third of the campaign is average, but once the bigger maps come you will have fun. You'll need every type of unit at your disposal. You'll use strategic and tactical advantages, you won't have enough firepower, reinforcements will be flying in by the dozens through "radio men"... you won't live forever 😉. The graphics are nice, a bug here and there, but nothing major. The sounds are great, but turn down the music and turn up the volume a bit to hear the soldiers firing. I had fun. The campaign is long, hard and the videos are fun. 4.5 stars. Only on brutal difficulty, Apes 😁.

Pro: - effective Starship Trooper lore, for those who like it - some missions are quite entertaining Cons: - the strategy part of this RTS is reduced to the minimum (no resurces gathering, ultra basic tech tree,...) - some missions (or at least part of them) require too much micromanagement - the difficulty is not well balanced: some mission are very easy, but other have parts very challenging and requires too much micromanagement - some minor bug(ver. GOG 2.0.8 april 2024) : in the interface sometime (not too often) you can no longer see some data on the scree(i.e. the hive population count), in this case just save, quit and reload.
