Starship Troopers: Terran Command

Finally finished campaign on brutal difficulty. It took me 20 hours. Campaign has 19 missions. There's also two challenges, not part of the campaign. Story is quite good, i mean if you like the movie, you are gonna love this. Voice acting, is surprisingly good. They really made an effort. There are a lot of different units, from infantry, officers, mechs. Each of them has its use, you will use all of them as you progress through the campaign. I didn't have any crashes, didn't have any issues. Sometimes units were glitching or getting stuck couple of time. But nothing major. Don't have anything negative to say. Except for, the game doesn't have skirmish mode, i mean its only campaign. You cant set up a match against AI. The campaign was a lot of fun, so its not a big deal, at least for me not. As for replayability. I will definitely replay the game in the future. But i already beat the highest difficulty. So that's that. It needs one more difficulty. Game is 25 euros, which is cheap, for the content you are getting. Now if you like the movies, just get the game. If you didn't like movies, well then you might not like this, but who knows, maybe you will. Do your part

Its a serviceable tower defense game and it runs smoothly. The problem is the interface is a little clunky for how much micro you have to do and the unit behavior and pathing doesn't help. There are some flashes of World in Conflict or Ground Control in the mobile deployments and, but the unit abilities and enemy types need to be fleshed out some more. For example, the large infantry squads are effectively the same and the their is no reason to keep the lower tier units when you access the higher tier units. Despite those problems the base mechanics of the game like Terrain elevation, True Line of Sight & True Line of Fire work well and the specialist unit interactions offer some interesting problem solving. Overall if you love the movies, I would recommend it, but if your a RTS fan I would recommend waiting for a DLC to add some replayability.

If you loved the movie, then this might be worth a try. Or at least, that's what I thought. While the presentation and atmosphere are faithful to the movie, this game has really nothing else going for it. After playing six missions of the campaign, I realized that I was actually playing the same scenario: build base, hunt for bug holes, fight off waves of bugs, do it all again. Other than the movie tie-in, this could have been any run-of-the-mill RTS game made 20 years ago. There is no resource collecting, and the base-building feels a bit off. Buildings do unlock certain units, but you can't build them until sometime during the mission the game just arbitrarily allows you to. There are several different types of units, but in the heat of battle you don't really have time to manage them as anything other than a mob. Likewise, units can gain levels, but it is hard to tell that it really matters since the bugs seem to be able to swarm and tear apart even elite squads with ease. Anyhow, the game looks good and does have strong vibes from the movie. However, it gets boring quick, which is a shame since a little bit of imagination with the mission design would have gone a long way toward making the game more enjoyable. If you just have to play this, wait until a steep discount. If you are not a fan of the movies, then best to skip this altogether.

First of all for anybody who doesnt know there are actually a few different Starship Troopers games for pc and have been for some years now and although this is the only one on either steam or gog nonetheless. Theres are really good retro shooter as well as a tactical strategy game which I used to play on the win 98 years ago but that one can be a bit frustrating some times. leaving titles aside this one in particular though has imporved in the line of that quite a bit and needless to say the graphics are way better. The ost of Terran Command is absolutely epic and completely does it justice so much that it belongs in a movie.

I think it's a solid entertainment game, it lacks several features like more base building but if what you want is to fae hordes of bugs with a few good men, it delivers. I hope they make more missions, or some modders does, the only thing I really disliked is that falls a bit short, and I always got time to kill some bugs. Hoping for some DLC or more games.
