Fairly good

Decent game. Research system feels a bit formulaic.

A delightful game

I bought this a couple of days ago and have not been disappointed. I am still in my first game. I watched a UTube video that helped me understand the controls. I have not encountered any difficulties playing the game. Thus far, I haven't felt the need to read any walkthroughs. I great, unexpected delight. Yes, the graphics appear a bit video-gameish but it hasn't stopped me (won't!) from playing. I have not encountered any bugs in my 16+ hours of playing. I can't comment on diplomacy or trade as I've adopted a Guns-Blazing, death-to-everyone approach. Someone commented this game is like Freelancer (Trent & Juni, how I miss you!) and I think that's fair though the space scenes do not have the rich lushness as that game. Don't forget to blast away at the asteroids if you need minerals to build. The ship-building is especially nice: You can reconfigure your ship without worrying about losing the minerals you previously used to build. RECOMMENDATION: Lots of engines and reactors can compensate (thus far) for weaker guns. A sequel has been announced; I've already added it to my wish-list.

Intriguing and considerate, yet -

further refinement is needed. The sole developer restrained himself well by limiting the scope of the project, allowing for simple yet pleasing graphics to both demonstrate the empty vastness and unique wonder of space to tell its own tale through absense. This intrigue increases the pleasure interstellar objects grant when sighted with further information added through text and interactive dialogue. Though the minor decisions are mostly surface level, they aid in giving the player the feeling of being a commanding a vessel and its crew. The addition of small, simple puzzles formed by scattering information throughout the known world for the player to piece together; uncovering secrets, artifacts, hidden locations, or solving problems certainly helps in keeping the players interest and acts as a driving force for further exploration. Despite this, when the mind adapts and realises the patterns of construction, the game can become formulaic and tedious towards its end - its necessary restraint is also its biggest downfall. There is only so much to be learnt about the world and its inhabitants; the biggest underlying secret that progresses the plot, whilst a good thought exercise outside of the game - a problem which humanity and the success of a species must eventually tackle, is laid bare and made apparant fairly early on. Thus, the gameplay may devolve into a metroidvania style accumulation of power and location checkmarking until the player can finally be able to bear witness to the games denouement. Which I thought was handled poorly, a thought-provoking concept with numerous interesting conceivable conclusions instead bore a limp cop-out ending. The combat itself is inherently fun, as battles of epic proportions between vessels are. It can be a bit of a sword measuring contest however, so I would recommend playing on Ultra difficulty. This means the player has to be somewhat diplomatic and cautious - forced to reconcile and explore, without it being too tedious.

Of course named my ship "Enterprise"

Very good, will buy the next one as well. Reminds of star control. RPG type adventure in SPACE! well done devs, steal in a sale, but worth it at full price.

Enjoyable space exploration but Spyware

Enjoyable game. Well-designed top-down space exploration. Stable from my perspective. No crashes and no broken save games. It does save after every worm hole jump but I did not have any issues with this. I played it with 1 death. Never died but came close a couple of times from the Chitik and Sentinels. The visuals are very nice for a top down. The planets look amazing. the ONE HUGE PROBLEM....Minus 3 Stars for this alone for what should be a 5 Star game. The Devs included Unity Analytics in the game. This is Spyware. It tracks play behavior then uploads that in Zip files to Unity Analytics for most likely sales monetization. Wx3 Labs knowingly included this (it is an optional Unity addon) in the build with no way to disable it from the Options. If there is an option to Disable this feature then fine. It needs to be DISABLED by default and Allow us to CHOOSE to enable it in the Options. Enough Said.
