its a simple fun game, resolutions are a little low but nothing that cant be fixed with mods
kind of an ageless title tbh, still feels great
screen shake is unbearable in first few missions ngl
One of my top favourite FPSs of all times. This game blew me away back in the days and I've played through it a great number of times. I wish there was an updated content for it because I know it by hard by now.
TL;DR a fairly generic FPS gameplay wise that's primary drawcard is getting to be in the Clone Wars.
The Good
-Battle droids. Lots of them. And you get to shoot them. Unlike Battlefront II, the "super" battle droids are more than just a selectable skin, they're much tougher :)
-Access to the Star Wars library of music, which has for the most been excellently applied to the gameplay. No Imperial March playing every 5 minutes (looking at you Empire at War)
-The three settings have a fair amount of set decoration to really set the scene. Geonosis has animated backgrounds of inside the droid factories and coreship's (bombproof) windows give an impression of a much larger ship.
-The squad control interface, the key to success in the most difficult parts, is not complicated to use
The Bad
-The level design is clearly limited by its time. As other reviews have said - CORRIDOR SHOOTER. All 4 main characters have a retractable rappel and a jetpack that are only used in cutscenes. Enemies drop down out
-If you like the "normal" Clone Troopers, they've been reduced to redshirts and set decoration as dead bodies in order to convey how serious the situation is. Lazy writing, the commando's come off as very Mary Sue characters
-Your squad will only use special weapons at the predefined "F" points. No sniping, sniper.
The Ugly
-Your weapons suck. Really. Much of this seems to needlessly applying standard FPS tropes . Your pistol never runs out of ammo but shoots the same blue flashes as your main gun shoots, yet the latter not only runs out of ammo but uses earth ammo? Also the damn thing has worse spread and stopping power than the Sterling SMG it was originally based on. Because you have to use so much ammo to kill anything, there's ammo lying everywhere so much the dev's have the characters comment on it...
-Without spoiling the finale, the decision is made for you, regardless of were you move. Should have cut the controls a minute earlier if they wanted to railroad you.
enemies will kick/throw the grenades back at you, modern shooters lack the depth and charm this game had, despite the relatively short campaign and cliffhanger ending
ENGwhat can i say to this game? i liked it pretty much, the soundtrack is awesome, the missiondesign is interesting and it's run pretty well on gog, with the widescreen patches also very well on modern pcs in high resolution. buy it, if you wish to play a star wars shooter with nice atmosphere, a great soundtrack but a few problems, mostly the gunplay which doesnt feel so good. read the books if you wish to learn more about this squad.
