Awesome game.

One of if not the best games of all time especially considering the movie it is based off of. With this being said if it wasn't for "Abyss" I would've given it a 5. I live streamed the entire game on twitch and the final 4 courses took me about an hour to beat... most of that time was spent on Abyss because any mishap and you will be restarting and raging. Despite saying that about that one stage it is still a top notch racing game that even holds up in the fun factor with many racing games today.

What gives?

This game used to be free. How did it demand a price now?

It works after all

I got in the game after at least 10-15 crashes. I tried setting compatibility modes for SWEP1RCR.EXE but it didn't make any difference. The default compatibility settings are good anyway because the color mode is set to 16-bit and the game overrides High DPIs. I'm on Win 10 with a native 1440p resolution. The only resolution that works in my case is 1080p that you should set in the GOG Galaxy client, More/Other/Video settings before running the game. I guess maybe they optimized the game for 1080p. I don't think you have to reinstall the game if you've already run it and crashed. You can just verify/repair the installation in GOG Galaxy (More/Manage installation/Verify Repair). Otherwise, it's the best racing game ever. I hope there will be a remastered or a HD version someday, something along the lines of Star Craft or Heroes III - HD Edition. Good luck everyone.

A classic is back

A little bit unstable, but the fact it's working at all is quite amazing, and working well more amazing still. Runs fine, controls are smooth, I think it does a lot with 640x480 resolution as well. The audio is surprisingly crisp and perfectly designed, matching the atmosphere in and out of the races. Track variety is solid, ranging from desert to jungle to ice world to mining facilities. If you played and loved the game originally, get this now. If you haven't played podracer before and, like racing games such asWipeout more than NFS, well worth a play. You'll forget about the pixels immediately.

Now THIS is arcade racing!

Star Wars Episode 1 Racer (Yes, they couldn't have just called it Star Wars: Podracer) is a great, fun game. You choose a podracer, each with their own unique stats, and race through 3 tournaments made of 7 races each, as well as 4 bonus races. I've only experienced glitches on one world, but other than that it runs smoothly and all the menus aren't clunky. Racing at incredibly high speeds doesn't feel awkward either. You can play with a keyboard, mouse, controller, or joystick. Overall, the game is great. There is just one complaint I have with it. I know that this is an arcade game, but it's short. Also, aside from one race, it's pretty easy. Rolls, pitching, and even sometimes boosting is hardly needed. The game does feature multiplayer and freeplay, but multiplayer can only be played on LAN (GameRanger supports the game, but only on mac) and freeplay gets boring when you have all of the racers unlocked.
