Best Racing Game of my Childhood

STAR WARS: Episode I Racer is one of the best racing games ever made. I played it as a child / young teenager. And now I play it again. On a modern PC. I totally love it. It is exactly how I remember it. The graphics are obviously dated, but for its time it was really good. Gameplay is very good. The game aged very well and is still fun today.

GoG just became heroes of my galaxy!

I've been looking for this classic all over! I got it on CD when it came out, then lost the CD and almost became depressed for not being able to find it ANYWHERE! THANKS GOG! (Next stop: Emperor Battle for Dune, pretty please GoG?)

Childhood memories

I love this game when I was a child. Sucked at it but it's not that easy to be fair. Would love to play it again, but still crashes. Adjusted video settings, tried compatibility mode, reduced color mode; every tip I could get here. Still crashes unfortunately. Hopefully this can be fixed somehow. Therefore 4 out of 5, otherwise easily 5/5.

Thank you, GOG!

I've been waiting for this day since the announcement was made that games from LucasArts will be added to the catalog and here it is. Finally! The game itself runs smoothly on Win7 x64 so far (I'm halfway into the first championship) and is as fun as ever. If I had to compare it to something else it's basically WipeOut (maybe not as polished) set in A Galaxy Far, Far Away. From the time when cheap videogame adaptations were churned out by the dozens for popular movies currently playing in theaters it captures the most liked aspect of the (generally) least liked movie in the prequel trilogy surprisingly well and is a decent racer all-in-all, even by today's standards (except graphically of course, although it still doesn't look horrible in my opinion). Go buy it!

Good, but short

Disclaimer: I played through this game on the N64 15~ years ago. The races are fast in the beginning, and super fast in the last half of the game. You can buy upgrades (speed, traction, brakes, cooling, etc.) from the shop with money you earn from the races. New vehicles are unlocked as you complete the tracks. It's a super fun game, but at least I managed a "complete" (all tracks beat #1, all money spent on upgrades) playthrough in less than 4 hours, after which you have nothing else to do but beat your own track records. I had strong nostalgia for this game, but it was suprisingly fun, even after seeming a bit simple in the beginning. As the races get faster and faster, the gameplay really sucks you in. The tracks are good and vary nicely, and the atmosphere is great! Due to the very short game span, I'd say it's well worth around 5$, more if you have have old nostalgia left for the game.
