Star Wars™: Dark Forces Remaster has been brought to life by the team at Nightdive Studios, fully remastered through its proprietary KEX engine, allowing the game to run on modern gaming devices at up to 4K resolution at 120FPS. New and returning players will enjoy Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster’s upgraded gameplay, high-resolution textures, enhanced lighting and rendering, and support for gamepads.
The original 1995 Star Wars: Dark Forces raised the bar for FPS games, offering players a significant degree of movement and interactivity, a large selection of items and power-ups, and engaging environments.
In the first Star Wars FPS video game, players assume the role of Kyle Katarn, a defector of the Galactic Empire turned mercenary for hire. Katarn joins the Rebel Alliance’s covert operations division tasked with infiltrating the Galactic Empire, where he discovers the secret Dark Trooper Project. The development of this powerful new series of Imperial battle droids and power-armored stormtroopers stands to strengthen the Empire’s grip on the galaxy unless Katarn and the Rebel Alliance intervene.

It's the game I played as a kid, but improved in every way for modern systems with high refresh monitors. The ability to switch between the new rendering and old school rendering is a nice touch, and really drives home just how much has changed, even though you'd swear the game *looks* just like it did back in the 90s!
If you've never played the game before, I'd say get it on sale.
If you played this game way back in the day, I'd say it's worth it full price to support this kind of preservation effort.
This remaster is near perfect. It's a faithful update of the original game, with new high-resolution graphics and quality of life settings. It's everything that anyone who's a fan of the original game could reasonably want from a remaster.
My only criticisms are the cel shading style for the cutscenes (which, aside from the pre-rendered shots, appear to have been upscaled), which are at odds with the original art direction and the price of the game at launch (£25).
I was a big fan of Dark Forces in the 90's, and its ground breaking sequel. I was so happy when I heard about this remaster, but I did have some reservations, as I thought it would be brought completely up to date visually (e.g. look similar to modern games). However, after playing the game, I think Nightdive have struck a perfect balance between modern graphical techniques and the original feel and art direction of the original game.
Hassle free high framerates and controller support were much appreciated by me. I've seen some people complaining of some micro stutter, which i believe is easily fixed through console, but I didn't see it as I have a 144hz monitor.
Keyboard shortcuts and little quality of life improvements on the map and PDA were a great idea.
Honestly, top marks to Nightdive studios for this superb remaster, and top marks to gog.com for having this game from day 1 release!
Hoping for a remaster of Dark Forces 2 Jedi Knight and MOTS now! 🙏 😁
