Description

Star Wars™: Dark Forces Remaster has been brought to life by the team at Nightdive Studios, fully remastered through its proprietary KEX engine, allowing the game to run on modern gaming devices at up to 4K resolution at 120FPS. New and returning players will enjoy Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster’s upgraded gameplay, high-resolution textures, enhanced lighting and rendering, and support for gamepads.

The original 1995 Star Wars: Dark Forces raised the bar for FPS games, offering players a significant degree of movement and interactivity, a large selection of items and power-ups, and engaging environments.

In the first Star Wars FPS video game, players assume the role of Kyle Katarn, a defector of the Galactic Empire turned mercenary for hire. Katarn joins the Rebel Alliance’s covert operations division tasked with infiltrating the Galactic Empire, where he discovers the secret Dark Trooper Project. The development of this powerful new series of Imperial battle droids and power-armored stormtroopers stands to strengthen the Empire’s grip on the galaxy unless Katarn and the Rebel Alliance intervene.

Key Features:

  • All fourteen original levels, featuring Star Wars™ worlds and capital ships
  • Use your ability to jump, duck, and crawl to solve puzzles and defeat enemies
  • Your Personal Digital Assistant provides you with in game information such including map, inventory, and mission briefing
  • Engaging first-person ground combat featuring ten weapons and twenty types of enemies
  • Up to 4K 120FPS visuals
  • Advanced 3D rendering enables updated lighting and atmospheric effects
  • Modern gamepad support adds a new weapon wheel, and rumble
  • Controller Support - vibration and gyro controls
  • A variety of power-ups are made available to the player, including health, shields, weapons and ammunition
  • For combat, the player may use fists, explosive landmines and thermal detonators, as well as blasters and other ranged weapons

way too expensive

really too expensive for a old game only for remastered. The old version still enough. Wait for a good offer...

Worth every penny!

Ignore people complaining about the price. I've seen the interviews with Nightdive. This game was VERY hard for them to remaster because of all the weird choices Lucasarts made while developing it, like creating their version of multi threading years before it became a thing. The fact that they were able to remake all the graphics, and get the game working natively modern systems, with modern controls is an impressive feat. Nightdive deserves to be fairly compensated for all their hard work, because this wasn't just some simple port! And the game plays beautifully! They managed to make the game look like my nostalgia-goggles remember it--better in fact! Because I played the original recently, and it really looked bad. Even The Force Engine couldn't improve it this much. So again, ignore the complaints. This Herculean achievement in remastering such a legendary game is worth every penny!

Dark Forces Remastered

First off, had to get rid of the little superscript "TM" that got added to the install directory in order to launch the game, otherwise got the "File not found DarkEX.kpf" error code, even though the file was actually there. After that, all was O.K. and very impressed by everything so far. Game runs and looks great on Win 7-64. Had to use the offline downloaded file for install as Galaxy isn't backward compatible any longer, so maybe an install via Galaxy will sidestep the error message mentioned above. Retro repetitive MIDI music score can get a little irritating when you get stuck and keep spinning your wheels on where, what or how to do what's required next, so had to crank it down! Played the original way back and I guess getting older just does things like that to you... Agree that it seemed quite overpriced originally, but was now considerably reduced on sale so decided to just give it a shot and found it to be well worth it. I don't know that the price really should factor into the stars given for the actual game review, although it may be something to just mention as an aside. Looks like a lot of care and detail went into making this. Hope they keep going and remaster some more of those older great SW titles.

Much improved quality

I noticed a review (from a non verified owner) saying you can get the same quality for free That is not true and I urge people to check out the DF tech analsy of the game,, They've redone ALL the assets and they look much cleaner on a 4k display, with improved up/down views and controller support Well worth it, if not wait for a sale

Finally, decent controls :)

I know it sounds ridiculous, but there's just one reason I bought this: They made it playable by implementing "normal" controls. Maybe it's overpriced, but please stop that wailing, won't you? Nobody actually forces you to buy it, right? I paid about 20 quids while it was discounted and that's OK in my opinion. The game is quite entertaining, nothing groundbreaking or special though. It feels a bit like Doom in Star Wars universe, while still maintaining to be an independent game on its own and not a rip-off. (bear in mind, it has a story and cut-scenes) Star Wars and Doom fans will love it. Star Wars fans will enjoy it a lot. FPS and/or Doom fans will still find a decent experience. To me personally it's closer to 3 than 4 stars in terms of gameplay. So why giving it 4? Because it was groundbreaking back then (I know that sounds cliché), has dense atmosphere, good storytelling, is made with passion and really has a "Star Wars feeling" which many Star Wars games unfortunately lack. Don't be a skinflint and and buy this, you won't regret, I promise!
