I'm going to keep this review to the point: I never played Battlefront back when it first came out, and I don't have any nostalgiac attachment to it. That being said, this game is easily one of my favourites of all time. It's just a straightforward, wildly fun experience bursting with that iconic Star Wars magic. Not to mention it has one of the best game modes (Galactic Conquest) of all time!
If you're looking at the store page, you probably like Star Wars. And if you like Star Wars, you should absolutely play this game.
Hello there!
This is an FPS (or TPS, whichever you prefer) game set in the Star Wars universe and I love it. It has a wide variety of maps (each of them is different from the others and usually has some unique interaction) and game modes. Different eras have different factions, in ground combat each faction has 4 classes that are the same and 2 unique classes. Furthermore, almost all maps have vehicles, that any player can hop into and drive, until they get bored and jump out, an engineer steals it from them, their team wins or they get blown up (vehicles respawn at certain locations btw).
In space combat each faction has 2 classes, but their spaceships are different. You can also destroy enemy capital ships from inside after you land in them. Fun thing to try: put a bomb on an enemy ship at the moment they take off. They blow up just when they think the fun begins. Oh, and there are vehicles which multiple players can drive (for example: one drives, one handles the weapons, one does nothing, etc. just normal team work).
There are also heroes, whom can be obtained by playing well or by random chance (can be changed in the settings). They are kinda OP, but they are on a time limit, you have to kill enemy soldiers to get more of it. At any point in time there can be only max 2 heroes on the battlefront, except in hero assault mode, where every player controls either a hero or a villain.
The gameplay is fun, the classes have different playstyles, the music is classic John Williams Star Wars goodness, however, imo the best thing about this game, is that the developers released mod tools for it, so there are hundreds of custom maps, units, heroes, eras and game modes available online.
My only critique is that the physics are kinda janky and the space maps feel samey. The graphics are obviously outdated, but I don’t care about that.
Runs on a potato!
Online was restored in an update, so happy mine laying in blind corners!
Hi,
Star Wars Battlefront 2, is a real masterpiece (FPS)(First person shooter) + (TPS)(Third person shooter), at any time with a click of a button. Superb graphical worlds and space environments. Singleplayer + Multiplayer + Galactic conquest + campaign + Instant action across worlds - meaning you can quickly play as a Jedi (ex: Luke Skywalker, Darth
Vader, Princess Leia) on these Worlds at your very whim - just make sure you have enabled them on the (Instant action/session/hero options). A huge amount of options are available, (5) different settable key (keys/mouse/joystick) configurations available for (Infantry, vehicles, jedi, turrets, space crafts), with many keys to set, like, movements, jump, crouch, roll, zoom, enter vehicles/turrets, jedi force powers, sprint + much more. Go into battle with weapons like, lightsaber, force powers, pistol, rifle, incinerator, fusion cutter, shotgun, sniper, rocket launcher + much more depending on the character you are playing. Battle the opposite side enemies you choose (Empire, Rebels, Droids). NPC's voice chatter, speeches, sound effects and more.
Mission commander radio chatter. Freedom of exploration (Fundamental).
A real (FPS) + (TPS) delight.

Since this game was released almost 10 years ago, I've bought it multiple times: twice on the PS2; once on the PSP; and, now, again for my laptop. Every single purchase has been worthwhile, and this game just gets better and better the more I play it.
While the structure and mission objectives are fairly simple, the game's complexity comes in exploring new ways to conquer battlefields, new ways to approach levels and use their layouts to your advantage, and experimenting with the different character classes.
While there are plenty of Star Wars games out there, none have managed to capture an authentic look and feel like this one. Worth every single penny (and an absolute bargain!).
If you liked it back in 2005 there you played it on the PS2 against your friends, you will like it again!
The reason why I only gave 4 Stars is: that the Multiplayer is mostly laggy, but it still makes fun to play!
