Description

Buying this game will get you both the original version and the Enhanced Edition.

Great Emission, the biggest anomalous energy blowout from the times of Second Incident at The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, has shaken the world again and reshaped the Zone. To investigate its cause and and prevent future cataclysms is your only chance to survive in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky.

WAR OF FACTIONS

With the anomalous activity at its maximum, the unstable Zone continues to tremor with outbursts. The transformation of the Zone map destabilizes the fragile balance of forces in the Zone. Hostilities for the new territories, artifact fields and spheres of influence flare up among groups. Feuds and friendships are left behind – now, everyone watches out only for themselves. The Faction War has begun. To survive, join one of the parties and knock out opponents over the Cordon... Or benefit from working for all the factions at once, like a true mercenary.

NEW PATHS

The safe and trusted pathways are no more. Known places disappear in impenetrable fields of anomalies, stalkers and entire expeditions vanish or remain trapped within. Mysterious territories that have been lost since the appearance of the Zone are opening up, calling for explorers. Your mission is to become a pioneer and explore all the new areas that have become accessible in "Clear Sky"!

MYSTERIES OF THE PAST

As a mercenary named Scar, play a key role in Strelok’s fate and discover new details to the original game story, revealing its major secrets. Visit the familiar places as they were before the original game starts and witness the events that shaped the Zone to the years ahead.

Game features:

  • A prequel to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chornobyl, that reveals the backstory of the Zone, familiar characters and locations.
  • New types of equipment and weapons: HPSS-1m, hunting rifle, RP-74.
  • New locations: Swamps, Red Forest, Limansk and Abandoned Hospital, full of new stories and tasks.
  • An advanced upgrade system for weapons and armor with technicians, allowing you to improve and customize your favorite pieces.
  • Player's actions can affect the balance of power in the Zone and the influence of factions.
  • A dozen of new anomalies and artifacts, and a new artifact hunting system utilizing detectors.
  • Improved graphics, interface and AI, making the journey through the sinister radioactive lands even more convenient.

Disappointing and utterly skippable

This game is fine until you are past the Garbage, when it turns into a rail shooter with infinite spawn points that pay no attention to being beside the player. The immersion is easily shattered, and the COD run & gun is about as anti-stalker as it gets. At that point it completely abandons the open world exploration that SoC and CoP are lauded for. The worst aspect of CS is the lack of balance or any character development after the Cordon. I was able to finish the game without gear that was all available in that early in the game (AN-94 and SEVA suit). The regularity of crashes with a fully patched (including fan patches in the latest stable version of ZRP - avoid "complete" as it is far less complete or upto date as ZRP is) version is also a major knock against it. I will concede that this is the most optimized of the three, and looks great under the video setting: Dynamic Lighting (aka DX9). While DX10/DX10.1 mode looks even better, the significant increase in crashes prevented it from being used for more than a few minutes. The greatest disappointment is that GSC did not import the the maps, architecture, and optimizations into CoP. For the record, I have play SoC 20+ times, and CoP 14+. This was my first, and last CS playthrough, and makes me regret having caved in after all these years to try it. If I had never known how good their level design could be, I would be more satisfied. CoP now looks even more rushed and unfinished than I previously thought (though CoP is still a 4.5/5 with mods).

The Worst of All Worlds

Widely considered the worst S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game for good reason. There's now a ham-fisted story, uninspired boss fights, and linear corridor shooting with monster closets. And the new additions? Well, there's like 3 new areas, but they aren't very impressive (or used for anything other than set dressing for the linear endgame). There's also a faction war mechanic, where you lead a faction to domination. The problem is that it's really on a per-map basis --it's far from a full-scale conflict. And in reality, you just choose between two sides three times. Or you can be like me and skip it and suffer no consequences. Other than that, it's pretty much just Shadow of Chernobyl. If you've never played a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game and you plan on playing the whole series, this one might be the best to start with. Why? Well, it only gets better from here.

Call of Duty disguised as a STALKER game

My least favourite of the three. I'm a hardcore S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fan, but it's hard to recommend this. In this prequel we follow a merc named Scar who has been hired by a faction called Clear Sky to find Strelok, the main character from Shadow of Chernobyl. He went to the heart of the zone and triggered a huge blowout. Scar needs to stop him from trying it again. The positives: + Great graphics + Haunting sfx and soundtrack + New hubs and changed old ones + Still very atmospheric + Very challenging gameplay + Mechanics can repair and upgrade your gear + Extremely moddable The negatives: - Bugs, bugs, bugs - Needs the Sky Reclamation Project mod to be playable - Broken faction wars - The Zone is overpopulated - Sometimes feels like a Call of Duty game - Bleeding requires multiple bandages - Bandits grenade spam - Enemies carrying crap weapons but have pinpoint accuracy - Food is not necessary anymore - Artifact hunting is a chore - No iron sights - Not getting your money back after being robbed - Very linear after Limansk - Cop out ending All in all, Clear Sky is the weakest game in the trilogy and only recommendable to the hardcore S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fans. All others should just go straight from Shadow of Chernobyl to Call of Pripyat. I'm very surprised some people rate this as their favourite S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game. My guess is they love frantic shooters like Call of Duty too, but that's not what S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is supposed to be. 5.5/10

go back to go farther

Not as immersive as the first one, but still a great story, and an improved gameplay. We will visit familiar places in different states, and new ones to understand what happened just before Shadows of Chernobyl. And still this unique atmosphere with anomalies and mutants.

Not a great S.T.A.L.K.E.R game...

As background, I have about 10h in this game and about 40h in Shadow of Chernobyl. I have not played Call of Pripyat, yet. Overall, I do think this is worth playing for fans of S.T.A.L.K.E.R series, but I would definetely NOT recommend it as a fist S.T.A.L.K.E.R game for someone just starting out. The AI: One of the high points of SoC in my opinion - seems dumbed down. NPC behavior is vanilla: they are overly agressive, do not take cover or flank as often as in the first game and have the annoying superpower of immediately knowing where you are. In the first installmente NPCs behaved as if they had some idea of where you last were instead of having this 6th sense of always doing the straight path towards your current location. NPC weapons also seem to have a significant lower spread compared to the ones the player use. This is a cheap cheat mechanic to make the AI harder... Bleeding: This was changed for the worse. Instead of the red/yellow/geen indicators which made it obvious to you how bad the situation was and how many bandaged you would have to use, now the only indication you have is the intensity of your heartbeat sound - which during combat is nearly impossible to pay attention to. On top of that you seem to bleed a lot more which leads to spamming the bandage button all the time. Ironsights: pistols no longer have ironsight I have no idea why this was done as I see absolutelly no benefit. Thankfully there are mods that restore ironsights to pistols. Damage: They managed to make gunplay a bit more satisfying with the increased damage. Now you can realistically headshot enemies even with pistols... Atmosphere: Nights are now actually dark, which is great. But overall, the game seems to not really have the same bleek atmosphere the first one did. Maybe improves later on, who knows... Faction wars: seems like a cool idea, but in practice it ended up being a dull mechanic. Doesn't really add a lot to the experience from what I've seen.
