Sadly this one is just as disappointing as I expected from the heavily scripted "real gameplay footage" videos presented before the release.
It appears that the main priority when finishing the development was to cater to XBOX standards of controls, accessibility, information - things that are just as important, but not at the price of not making sure that the core gameplay is anoyhow fun.
At every point of interest, enemies spawn right in front, sometimes right behind you, in infinite waves, with mutants automatically aggro-ing you and always knowing your exact position. Fun it is not.
I do hope that the team will continue finishing this game, because it's not bad - just extremely disappointing. Slava Ukraini!
It took a while, about 9 months after launch, now July 2025, for a lot of major patches to come in and also mods as well, but I feel now you can really get a great and customized experience with this game that feels like a worth sequel to the original stalker games
The performance is quite bad, hopefully Unreal Engine 5.6 update eventually fixes this, unless you have a beefy CPU, the game runs much better on my 9800 X3D now at least since it can just brute force through the game, but I think middle range CPU will do better with UE5.6 updates which is apparently a big performance boost
The game itself is impressive imo, it really utilizes UE5 in a great way, the detail is impressive, character models and shading look excellent at ultra/epic settings and so on, it feels very immersive when interacting with the world and characters due to the incredible detail, and they did pretty well with some of the narrative scenes and facial animations to make it look convincing, even if slightly in the uncanny valley territory,
There are other random issues like enemy ragdolls flying all over the place after dying which is immersion breaking
Controller support is pretty good, but there are some issues with overlapping controls, jump and "focus" aim are the same button, so aim focused basically can't be used
Not all older mods work well with the updated game, like weightless mods, which I really like to use, most mods work pretty great though
You need another application to get proper widescreen FOV adjustment which is a nuisance, especially FOV adjustment on the gun model, flawless widescreen is needed for that, that really shouldn't be necessary in such a new game
But anyway, trailing off here, after that 9 months I feel the game with the A-life updates and game simulation updates and so on is a lot improved and finally feels like a proper sequel to the original Stalker games, it feels a lot more polished now even though not perfect
Finally finished the game, on normal, after 100+ hours of gameplay and honestly i want to start it again.
It's a great, fun game, that took me about a month of casual gaming to finish and that felt very rewarding in the minute-to-minute gameplay category (combat, exploration, loot etc.).
To start I experienced very few defects, only 2 crashes and only 2 defects that required a reload to progress (UI did not reappear after a cutscene). I got the game in March, so after a few massive patches filled with fixes, and ran it on a 3060 Ti with mostly everything on medium without issues; the game had a few stutters only in closed environments that were a bit too cluttered for my old rig.
Other than that there are a few things that I was not crazy about: the stealth is pretty bad; enemies can easily spot you from (literally) miles away through bushes while you're sitting crouched in the dark with no flashlight on. I was a bit annoyed by the lack of english localization for signs or grafitti, which is sometimes needed for hints during exploration. Also the main protagonist's motivation is... I mean i guess we just need a reason for it, but it keeps popping up through cutscenes and makes me roll my eyes a little.
But like i said the exploration is great and the game always offers a reasonable challenge on medium difficulty, throughout the entire experience (barring the boss fights which are kind of meh). You really take into account every encounter and wheter it is worth it or not, and more than once i just runaway from a fight thinking that it's either not worth it or that i won't make it.
Solid 8/10 game. Anyone who enjoyed the old stalker games and has the rig to run this at least on medium will enjoy this.
if they just keep at it im sure this could be one of the best but i just cant bring myslef to enjoy it or justify 100 bucks hoping it will get better
notes for the devs
add vaulting and going prone i know its not built around this but find a way
animations for everything is a must your doing good so far
more weopons and weapon mods
tons of bugs like lod being wonk when you get closer to objects ect ect need to fixed
bring back stuff from the og stalker make a list check it twice if it aint in 2 put it in
if all this could be added itd def be on its way
im going to give it a chance ill support it now in hopes it will be better do better guys i know you can do it
if you guys really turn this around and listen to what the og fans say you can make a name for your team
